    Tiamat Sleep Resistance

My LS has switched out to some NIN/DRKs and PLD/NIN tanking for Tiamat and one thing we've noticed on our more NIN/DRK tiamats is that if things go bad near the end, Tiamat does not stay asleep for an extended period of time.

Its probably not DOT related because of the time in between the 2 test cases (same BLM Esealed Sleep2).

So I ask, is the sleep resistance mentioned in the patch notes so long ago refer to duration of the sleep instead of the resistance of sleep? We'll be testing it again on our next Tiamat to make sure but I'd want to see if people here have had similar experiences.

    Thanks

If your NIN/DRKs spam sleep on their list of hate-gaining spells, you're going to be SOL if you need to sleep it later. In my experience, it affects both resists and duration.

Our NIN/DRKs stun a lot of the TP moves unintentionally. Your linkshell just has to be confident to be able to fight this way.

Nin/drk is fine, just don't use sleep as a hate tool and remove it from your spell rotation. Plenty of other stuff to cast...

If you can stick Abs-MND as NIN/DRK, your RDMs will love you for it. :D

Not only that, the increase in debuff potency would immediately benefit you as well ^^

It effects both accuracy (which usually isn't a problem thanks to ES) and duration. Our NIN/DRK try to avoid casting Sleep if they can on wyrms now (except Vrtra) after we found out the hard way.

Ive always casted sleep, never ended up being a problem.

When I initially asked if it was ok way-back-when, they said tiamat doesnt accumulate sleep resistance.

I'll maybe cast Sleep 2-3 times the entire fight, only if I'm really really behind on hate. Usually Stun, Bind, Ninjutsu debuffs, and various absorb spells is more hate than I want.

I found out Tiamat's sleep resistance a long time ago. JPs on my server love using RDM/NIN tanks, and I was watching a skeleton crew fight Tiamat and doing fairly well. They got it down to 10% but the RDM/NIN tank had been spamming Sleep the entire fight, and when they had a BLM ES Sleep II it, it woke up almost immediately. They eventually wiped and gave up.

use sleep as a catch-up tool, like after you get horrid roar'd or something. otherwise keep to a strict rotation of stun > bind > JAs. saving soul eater until you need it is often very useful also in those situations. throwing in the ocassional absorb is ok, but only when you have plenty of mp to spare.

My linkshell yells at me for going nin/drk usually, but they refresh me all the same.

Anyway I don't use sleep but I pop SE every 6 mins and melee that big orange fucker.

A long time ago when NIN/DRK was still newish..
Boen was spamming sleep on tiamat....at low hp shit hit the fan and it resisted even elemental seal sleep....(if i remember right)...

I dont even remember sleep landing....I think it did eventually and did not last long so in my experience yes Tiamat builds sleep resistance if your nin/drk spam sleep

personally I dont see need for sleep spam on him to get hate....
And yes accidental stunning of TP moves is great

if you are spamming sleep on any NM that can be potentially slept thats just a big no, tell your drks to keep sleep out of their spell rotation for the safety issue. If your NIN/DRK are spamming sleep on a sleepable and thinking nothing of it, they are pretty absent-minded and should think twice about coming /DRK next time.. lol

kinda shocked at the number of people saying not to use sleep. You've got a lot bigger issues to deal with than your spell rotation if you really need that crutch to fall back on.

Our NIN/DRKs use sleep in their usual rotation, but we just don't worry about running into problems. Our last Tia fight had only 12 of us with issues with our runner kiting away Corses and BLMs ending up having to kill most of them anyway, and things were still fine. We just don't find ourselves in situations where we have to sleep Tia in our last, like, 15 fights.

So if you have to worry about it, then ok, don't use sleep. But if you're confident in your tanks and in your group, then it shouldn't be an issue. But they can pretty easily hold hate otherwise anyway. /shrug

We only needed to sleep once for MP regen. (just to make it smoother since entire ally was a tad low) but we were unable to. The chaos that ensued after trying to sleep is why I ask.

I wonder what it is like to be on a server where people don't train spiders, corses, and such through the HNMs you are fighting...
