Low Manpower Fafhogg kills

Very early this morning my linkshell killed Fafnir. Obviously because of the poor timing of Faf's window my linkshell didnt expect a large turnout.

Turned out we had 8ppl there and 23 ppl total in the zone on Fafs 5th window.

We ended up getting claim and managed to kill him 3 mins before he went into rage mode. I was pretty excited that we managed to kill him with the limited numbers we had.

Setup was Nin Pld Brd Rdm Rdm Whm Blm Blm, our Nin tanked most of the fight.

Im wondering what was the lowest number you have ever killed Fafnir and Niddhogg with?

Low number kills are pretty easy especially nowadays with the strength of debuffs and shit...
A slow II + elegy + paralzyed fafnir = LOL
a tank like BRD/NIN or NIN/BRD or even PLD/NIN + some BLM damage would be a good setup...very little TP given and the BLM can nuke a lot and not worry about hate..
so something like
NIN/BRD PLD/NIN RDM BRD BLM BLM would win pretty easily imho...
Its rare to see such low numbers on my server though..

Drops? Idk what the least amount of ppl would be, But on Bahamut worldx ls could prob do it with under 6 ppl.

In my old ls, we killed one with 8 or 9, with me dual boxing war and smn. I think we had nin, pld/war ;; rdm, whm, 2 wars, smn, a 74 blm that d/c'd halfway through, and maybe 1 other melee. We killed faf as it was raging with all our mages dead. And i think we got like our 4th z mitts of the week which went to a whm, so crappy drops.

Back in 2005, I saw a party of 6 JPs fight Fafnir.
PLD, PLD, BRD/SMN (lol), BLM, RDM, xxx
They killed it in about 55 minutes. No shield update and other such.

I saw WyrmBrigade on Midgard take Faf out with 6 in about 40 minutes a couple month back. I don't remember their exact setup, but they had an Aegis/Excalibur PLD and a couple BLMs. I think they had RDM instead of BRD, dunno what the two melees would have been though.

My LS killed fafnir 80% of the time with under 8 people. Took about 30min with about 6 one time. If you have pimp blackmages and good tanks, it's an easy fight.

lowest ive seen was Sakura kill with 6. this was before the rage mode was introduced so they could take their time with it.


Lowest ive killed it with was 9, none of which was a rdm or brd. Me and the other pld tank had to alternate tanking and resting. This was pre-apoc Nigh and pld update so no mp regen for us.

I'm guessing Utsusemi, Jubaku, and Kurayami. You don't really need to spam other songs aside from Mazurka 1, especially at fafnir where your entire party is in singing range.

It's not actually spamming the other songs. Mazurka has 'No Effect on ***', in a Dungeon Area, but still acts like it was in an outside area (Hate, no speed).

I'm just wondering if the NIN kept Paeon3, Adv. March, or Ballad1 up during the fight.

Fafnir should not be brought up on BG forums unless it's good ol' Aery Drama or some update...

Easily one of the most intense HNM fight of my FFXI "career", also because back then claiming Nidhogg wasn't exactly common for us and having just 9-10 people for the majority of the fight didn't make it any easier.

Late post but my shell did something similar to this except, we wiped at about 8%. we had a PLD NIN RDM SMN BRD WAR WHM BLM x3. our mistake was not swaping the bard around so we lost but heres a screen.
