    ffxi freezing new pc halp

I'm getting pretty serious lockup issues with my new pc on FFXI. I get no problems when playing BF2142 on some of the higher vid settings. The problem I'm having is that the game will freeze for about 10 seconds (stays frozen so long, even the music freezes), then will catch back up. In besieged, it did it 12 or 13 times in a row, and eventually I got DC'd due to it.

    System specs are:

    Core 2 duo 2.66
    2x1gb kingston ram (667 mhz)
    evga 680i mainboard
    pny 7950 gt vid card
    2x250gb WD in raid stripe
    truepower trio 650 psu

I've tried 5 or 6 different forceware drivers (http://www.3dchipset.com... I tried the top 10, half won't load though).

I'm pretty stumped. I don't think it's the hardware because my FPS games work fine.

    Any ideas?

You actually have the PNY? or another version? And, what driver are you using?

I have no clue how old this quote is, I found it posted on the windower forums.

The 7950 itself won't crash FFXI, not with any working driver set. I not only support them, but I use one myself! ( '-')b

Find out who made your motherboard, and update your BIOS and Chipset drivers for it. [chipset for the 680i are at http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_680 ... _9.53.html Bios update is gonna be at evga.com's site.]

That's gonna be the best thing for you to do, and will probably fix it.

Does the 7950 work well with Windower? I heard there was some complications with that.

BFG Tech Shamelessplug! 7950GT OC PCI-E and I run Dynamis with All options turned on and Drawdistance set to 3 at 25-30 FPS. steady. I can even dualbox 2 chars on the same computer and alt+tab between them. So yeah, it works more than flawlessly.

Good news. I was thinking of buying a 7950 but I heard there were plenty of artifacts to choke a Dhalmel.

I just ordered a 7950GT so hopefully I see the same results Calina and cassiraa have. :D
