$600 for a used ps3?

The story:

My ps3 broke down last month, whenever I turned it on and a green blur would cover the bottom part of the screen. So I called up SONY, they said I was sol and had to send it in for repair. February rolls around (I made the call towards the end of January) I sent it in on a Monday and that Wednesday the ps3 had arrived.

This caught me by surprise as it usually takes 2-3 weeks, I was elated. I open up the box, and whats inside? a ps3 with a fucking scratch on the surface, obviously not mine. So I call them up, bitch and they tell me that they had changed their policy starting February and were only sending out refurbished ps3's from now on as the new consoles were shipped out to be sold.

I did however get a copy of Resistance Fall of Man as a consolidation prize, I've bought/sold/rented this game close to three times, so it'll pretty much sit here collecting dust. Does Microsoft or Nintendo have a similar policy?

Personally i won't even go near PS3's for another year or so. I used to be all about PS systems (mainly because of the games that were released). But they broke my trust with the bundle of crap that we call PS2.

Not from what ive ever seen or heard. Ive never heard one good thing come from anything Sony related, but ive always heard great things about Nintendo. DSs (even if its just one dead pixel) or Gamecubes or Wii's, they do it really great. MS is good computer wise, but I cant say anything for XBOXs.

I know for a fact Apple has a policy very similar to Sony, as does Microsoft. Unless the thing is broken right out of the box Microsoft or apple wont give you a new one only a refurbished one.

every dead Wii that ive heard about, nintendo just sends you a new one. They have a pretty hardcore refurbing place too, you can still send in your original nintendo and they will repair it back to working condition on the cheap.

I'm very annoyed at nintendo, my top screen on DS pooped out, Nintendo-Australia's warranty doesn't cover screens(wtf?), so i'd have to pay for parts and labour, Nintendo-America won't take australian DS's, so I'm double fucked. Kinda annoyed on how much I payed to buy this, and a few months later due to the top screen going poof, I can't do anything about it and it'd cost me only a few dollars more to buy a new DS.

Anyone know a workaround?

I had heard that there was some bullshit about they can have up to 3 dead pixels and not be qualified for repair/replacement or some crap so I never bothered. I since got a DS Lite and gave the original DS to my girlfriend. Can I have her or myself get it fixed for free even though it's kinda'... old?

always had good luck with sony. When my ps2 broke with the disk read error i sent it in about a year after i bought it and they said "They Fixed it". I got the same problem called them up the day after i got ti back, i sent ti back and i got a brand new one.

Though, idk what they would do with the ps3 since they are new-ish.

When my first gen PS2 crapped out they sent me a brand new one free, So I woulden't go so far to say they are notoriously horriblle.

My DS Lite had 1 dead pixel...they sent me a pre paid label, I sent it to them, I got a new one (or maybe the same one, it has the dead pixel out of the box) in a week.

Yeah, it happened to me. My harddrive failed on my 2nd gen iPod so I took it into the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. The guy decides my iPod is dead, so he whips out a plan brown box, and I'm thinking to myself he's going to stick my iPod in there and send it to get it fixed. Nope, inside is another 2nd gen iPod, refurbed. I was hoping he would just give me a video iPod hehe, but I'm not complaining, the refurb he gave me didn't have a single scratch on it, and in fact, looked in much better shape than my broken one. So I was quite pleased.

I think hes angry about the scratch on his returned "referbished" system. It wasn't his original new PS3 he had sent in.

Not the fact there are no good games for the system, hes not upset about that.
