FFXI sound issues

Hey all, I'm hoping someone is able to help on some level with this problem, its nothing major, but its an annoyance. My boyfriends PC is problematic while listening to music. He uses Itunes and usually plays MP3's while he plays. Recently though the MP3's have started to skip randomly at wierd intervals, and even his in-game music is skipping now.

I had him update his sound drivers, just in case. But no luck there, and I'm not very computer literate so I'm not sure what else to suggest!

Maybe it's lag? I know when I was in Dynamis with Winamp open last night both of my musics were skipping but I was lagging pretty bad too.

Its constant though, and he never really suffers from lag. Not that I'm aware of anyways, his connection is pretty pwn.
