I don't own a PS3 but I do own a Wii. Other than Wii Sports and Zelda (I've beaten both, into a pulp) None of the other games really appeal to me. My GF got Rayman but I got bored with it after about an hour. Hopefully Wii Play dropping tomorrow will make me play with my Wii some more.

I think PS3 will be good eventually but it's going to need some time for the games to catch up. Same thing happened with the PS2, tons of hype and then no games for a while.

wow, this is a busy thread with a lot of arguments going on.

1. Kazen, this forum is long, long past being relative to a single LS, a single server, or even a single game. And for fuck's sake, this is the general board.

2. PSP vs DS is a whole other debate, but in my mind neither is that great, though I own both. PSP is just for MGS at the moment, but I'm psyched for FFT and Rondo of Blood. DS has... FFIII... New SMB is ok... um FFXII: RW is coming out soon, that'll be good. Meh, both systems are primarily used to play back catalogs (psx,snes,gba). They're kind of both failures in a sense, then, aren't they?

3. I agree with Septimus's earlier post. Sony's been way to cocksure for a while now, and it's nice to see them under pressure for the sheer stupidity of what they've been doing with the PS3. What kind of stupidass is this Jack Tretton guy, anyway?

4. If you don't want to see Sony bashed, then now isn't a good time to browse game related sites. You can always refrain from clicking the link, though. Don't be a fanboy and try to defend them merely by bitching and moaning... if Sony is defensible, point out why. To be blunt however, it seems like a losing battle when Sony is making asses out of themselves like they are.

Ps3's sell the minute the arrive in the store i work in, literally. As soon as we hang a sign up saying we have them they're gone. (same for the wii's)
They really just need to start banning people, these threads are getting old. If you dont want a Ps3 dont fucking buy it, problem solved. As for me i'll be playing my Ps3 because i find it enjoyable (wii was fun to but it didnt keep me entertained very long). These threads are getting old, if you dont like it dont buy it, its as simple as that.

Kazen, I own a PlayStation 3 so in my opinion that gives me not only a right, but a responsibility to question and make note of things like this.

Not to be egotistical but if it wasn't for people such as myself contacting Sony and not giving up when they said there wasn't an problem, you and our fellow other PS3 owners wouldn't have seen such a "timely" fix on the PS2 compatibility issues (if at all).

The post I made while not addressing an issue with the system, is still relevant because it goes to show what one of the big core problems with Sony is now, their own arrogance. As other posters have said, Nintendo was guilty of it in the past, and to some extent they are guilty of it now with their hand held market. Sony however, has let their past success go to their head to a point where they think they can get away with telling us what we want and how dare we question them when some of us raise our questions at price, lack of games, and lack of promised features. The president of SCEA flat out lied in his statement, knowingly just to make the company look better.

If you yourself are easily pleased by the system enough to love it blindly, then more power to you. Maybe one day you will understand it is not only okay to look at things from more than one perspective, but it is actually an eye opening experience. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all have flaws as companies. To say if you don't like one or the other don't buy their respective product is a cop out. I love games, dealing with the console makers are necessary evils as a result for us all. If something is wrong, with something, we should talk about it, not hide it or pretend it doesn't exist.

Theres an ironic Japanese proverb saying: Fix the problem, not the blame. It is far more productive, and less expensive, to figure out what to do to fix a problem that has come up than it is to waste time trying to decide who's fault it was in the first place.

Instead of laying off executives just to have the next in line do the same thing, they should just put more effort into ironing out their gaming lineup, keep on task with constant firmware updates, do the little things to make sure the public is happy. They've admittedly started towards this path, but at first they didn't. I'm glad there was a public outcry around the world since it made them get off their asses.

Most of the games run normally... FF8 freezes from time to time, and FF9 lags a tiny bit where there are a lot of NPCs cramped together... all the other games I put on my 2 4gigs (mainly FFs, tactics, and some crash bandicoots ) have been running flawlessly.

I've used my PSP a looooot since I started installing DAX's firmwares on it.

Whoa is the PS1 emulator hard to use? Im a huge huge FFTactics fan and if theres anyway to get it onto my brother's psp i'd be all over it. How do you get the game from a disc to your PSP memory?

PS3 is overhyped. The only thing it's got going so far is the blueray. There's no good games really, the Wii is a lot better. And for 600 bucks, it's not really worth it.

The stores around here are just taking pre-orders for PS3 (comes out in March) and they still have a bigger sign at my local GameStation to reserve a Wii from the next shipment that comes in than the sign to reserve a PS3.

I've had some luck with money recently (managed to overpay tax for about 3 years so had a nicely-sized rebate) and I would be able to fork out for a PS3 if I wanted... but I refuse to pay over about £250 for a games console. They seem to be going for £495 here - that's more than I paid for my new PC and I'm not paying that at all.

Don't get me wrong - I would love a PS3 once it stabilizes after launch and there are titles available for it - but the price is a massive massive stumbling block for me and I'm simply not prepared to pay it until it hits about the £250 mark.

(Regarding console wars - is anyone else still continuously disturbed by Sonic, mister sega himself, going onto Nintendo? Or am I just showing my age here?!)

My Costco has had a pallet of PS3s sitting right as you enter the store with no one buying them at all. Stock hasn't moved at all. My friend who bought a wii at the same Costco said the same pallet of Wiis was gone by the time he picked one up and then checked out. Also went to the local best buy, 2x gameXXXX to see if they had a power converter for the DS (work in china and the US adapters don't work for 240V) and saw plenty of PS3s just laying around.

I think every major company in the world will be taking notes as to what to have their executives not say when they launch a groundbreaking product that carrys a hefty price tag.

I dont think anyone will say that the PS3 isnt a really powerful device, it has complex bleeding edge tech and a plethora of features. Its major downfall is its a bitch to program and a high price tag, thus no bleeding edge games to go with it. Thats all well and good but then Sony execs open their mouth and turn people against the console with the bullshit they spew, its not even realistic in its random wtfness. And following the complete and utter viral marketing failure of the psp over christmas, it would be better for the PS3 in general if Sony just stfu and let the power of the system do the talking plus concentrate on pumping out quality games.

I have Tactics on my PSP, but I don't really like how long and annoying the battles are...

The emulator isn't hard to all, you just load it from the Game>Memory stick folder after you add them with a usb cable onto your PSP. DAX's firmware takes what Sony's emulator does, along with their newest firmware, but lets you play everything at 1.5 (at least, it makes the PSP THINK it's on 1.5 even though all the newest features are available.)

At 1.5 the security stinks, hence you can just play any PSX isos you want. You make the ISOs/cue/bin/whatever rocks your boat with Alcohol120% or anything else like that, then use sony's popstation (I use it with PSX2PSP, which is an awesome app that let's you customize your menu for each game file) to make the specific file type out of it, along with compressing the file itself. This way, regular games that are about 200mbs (like crash bandicoot for instance) can get compressed down to like 80mbs. With the FFs I usually bring them down from 650~ to 400~.

forums.maxconsole.net have a pretty good community of people, and Dark_AleX (the guy that makes the customized firmware) always posts his stuff there first, on the main PSP firmware page on their site. If you hate questions or anything like that you can usually just post there and you will get honest and fast replies, I went there knowing absolutely nothing and ended up knowing everything about it. There are also a ton of FAQs there to help.
