haha.. as someone who can speak Chinese i found it quite an informative read. i knew most of these but they generally don't appear too offensive to me.. (i do love the 18 generations of ur ancestors one.. its like my fave, and is probably the most offensive in the whole list cos it deals with ancestry.) I was quite amused by the whole origins of some terms..

Mandarin swear words are pretty mild in general...

the Cantonese and Hokkien ones are the ones that are cool lol

    edit: I win page 2!

    That's just silly.

    Shoes would be leathercraft.

I love some of the literal meanings of the swears.

Ni you piao liang de lv mao zi-
Your wife is cheating on you (lit. you have a pretty green hat)

I personally liked that one, gonna use it next time I see Isahsadfbhasg fishing
Is that really how it comes out in Mandarin? I know if I was in a heated argument with someone, then in a fit of anger shouted "May your child be born with an imperforate anus!", I would be laughed at.

Now, "you have a pretty green hat" in a sneering tone sounds fine since has special meaning with those who understand it, much like an in-joke or internet meme. But literally saying "May your child be born with an imperforate anus" hardly sounds like it has any special meaning beyond exactly what it says, and comes off as an awkward and rather lame attempt at an insult.

well that what it really means. But in a heated situation, you sure will not want to use long string of insults. Just dump many small strings together and throw it at the opponent and don't allow any time for them to talk.

i'm singaporean =p not playing anymore though

    and...i didn't know that.

khamsin: its the context i guess =p i don't think stuff like "cock holster" or "fudge packer" translated to chinese would be very insulting
