+3 Enmity vs. +5 Enmity +38HP for NIN tanking. Hmmm... Guess I am just not cool enough for BG because I don't DD tank everything!

If you want to make an argument for Cerberus Mantle go ahead (and here is a hint, you may think you have, but you failed pretty miserably), if you just want to be a prick there are about 10 other areas of BG to do that.
HBM pros: +2 enmity, +38 HP

HBM cons: unable to swap in Boxer's/Shadow for ohshit macro. unable to swap in resist backpiece. unable to swap in magic reduction backpiece. pain in the ass to reapply on a longer fight, especially if it's kited. Weak as a DD piece.

I'm gonna go for the more convenient and versatile option, personally.
I responded to that line of reasoning earlier, I don't think its bad logic, just not universally true. Also, I think you are also only referring to PLD/NIN tanking where is it more true than PLD/WAR (kiting) or any kind of NIN tanking (oh, I am sorry, I forgot about DD tanking, but I am not BG enough for that).

    Re: Random Question Thread

I tank on pld and nin.

Kite fights tend to be long, so uh, no HBM on that. Plus it's not something you want to be fiddling with on claim, kite fight or not (so nix on KB, the shorter of most kite fights).

nin/war or nin/drk tanking: fire resist on tiamat, earth on ouryu. Resentment cape on Proto-Ultima and on certain Jailers as called for; a general magic reduction swap. Boxer's (or Shadow) for an oh-shit shadows down sort of macro, and Boxer's in any situation where you want to evade a lot for whatever reason. Gigant for Spirits Within or Souleater setup (although I suppose HBM has sufficient HP for those). Cerberus for anything you want to deal melee damage to.

So that leave HBM for stuff like Sky gods, some jailers, some weaker HNMs, fafhogg that you aren't DDing (and still I wouldn't want to fiddle with HBM on claim; was glad when I got my cerb mantle for that alone. not to mention defensive set for terror. so scratch fafhogg).

So overall, you will be served better by not using HBM, and cerb mantle is the piece you'll mostly likely be spending the most time wearing. Functions well for enmity, DD stats, and a popular resist set.

And if you want to keep martyring yourself by saying you're "not BG enough", all you're gonna accomplish is looking zam enough to not take seriously.

about a year ago with the introduction to mtv.com.au i entered in a pimp my ride competition, you were suppose to say what car u had and why u wanted it pimped out.

anyways about 3 months later i found out I won, and they sent me Pimp My Ride season 1 on DVD. still wrapped in its plastic case and unopened.

Been sitting on my shelf for about 8 months,
so my question is should i sell it on ebay or open it and watch it?

I already dealt with most of this last page. And even you listed quite a few places where Cerberus is not very useful. My comment about not being BG enough was sarcastic obviously, not to you, more in reference to that other person that said I was "retarded" for thinking that Cerberus was not the end all be all. If someone wants to flame me in Advanced, no problem, but I was mocking the over the top and pretty much useless response from SathFenrir.

BTW, you didn't really defend using the Cerberus Mantle, you just said that HBM isn't that great for different places, and I am not saying its perfect overall, but if you can use food after a claim you can use a HB, which is from where most of your criticism derives. In places where it's Cerberus vs. HB as your options, HB is almost always better. Basically you end up saying that Cerberus is what you use most after naming a bunch of places that you wont use a Cerberus.

I will admit that HB isn't perfect, but it is a better alternative than Cerberus in many cases. Cerberus is neither worth the gil, nor does it deserve the utter praise that some people assign to it (like that SathFenrir guy). Its a decent enmity piece and a good fire resist piece. For the price and the praise it receives that are much cheaper and nearly equivalent pieces.

(Side note on kited fights, in most you need as much enmity as you can get do to the more limited ability to draw and keep hate. With a HB mantle you would have use it at the beginning yes, but it lasts 30 minutes, and if you have to use it more than twice in any kited fight then you have larger problems than a Cerberus Mantle is going to fix.)

Yeah, it's not like using the enchantment on HB mantle locks you up for a moment or something. And you can't justify the annoyance of the HB mantle by pointing out that there is already another minor annoyance.

It depends on the communication with your other tank, also if that is the case, then why isn't a Resentment Cape almost as good (better in Zilart areas where contested claims are you main concern with an HB) without the massive cost of the Cerberus Mantle. Cerberus Mantle is a marginal improvement in that case nothing more, and definitely not worth the cost or worthy of the praise that it has been assigned.

Resentment cape is nice especially in regions where the effect is on, but otherwise it's undeniably inferior to Cerb. Thus resentment ends up a macro piece if you can afford the better Cerberus mantle (which has DD stats and fire resist which are always active).

If you want to talk about costs, just consider that HBM is a consumable and that you can get Cerb for basically free if your LS can kill Cerb.

How you get your Cerberus Mantle depends on the LS, but its undeniable that on the AH it is expensive and it is purchased. I suppose that 1 enmity is undeniably inferior, but that inferiority is also undeniably marginal.

Looking for camps to solo QQ Enterprisers in Aydeewa as 64ish BLM. I haven't gone exploring yet, but I hope there's multiple camps cause a /sea BLM aydeewa often returns quite a few people, and I hate dealing with competition.

At that lvl, there is only 1, the BLU pool (I-8 I think). It has 5 mobs to deal with, 2 of which like to link in the beginning, but then its easy.

Newton Mova is another choice (one I would really like) if I didn't get ass-fucked with stupid shit there sometimes. Killing bats in Tier III >> Tier IIga is much more mp effective.

And in case you say you use it when another person has hate, I'll direct you to the above quote where you mentioned keeping hate. Personally I'd rather use the time where you're locked up after using HB to use abilities/spells to gain more hate.

Arguing with Ringthree is like talking to a brick wall, he's wrong, we all know it, we all play tank jobs, and given the influx out counter-arguments to his zam-esque statements I'd wager we all play them on a different level than the one where 2 enmity and 38 HP is the difference between a smooth kill and the end of the world.

Honestly, since cerberus mantle has come out, this issue has been discussed, over and over, proven again and again, just because you have a fucking blog doesn't make you any less retarded. Are you not BG enough for us? Not my call.

But as the once great thread about the RDM/RNG on zam has taught us all, sure, there can be a few pro's to a certain combo of course, but when the con's vastly outweigh every pro in every aspect besides sky gods (compare rdm/rng - too weak mobs,) guess what, it isn't fucking worth it.

There is no intelligent argument against cerberus mantle, there is no functionality, if I want to en-terror myself while tanking I'll pull the internet connection, thanks.

That'd be a pretty badass enspell to have. Quick, to the Alla/KI Rdm forums!

How much total fire resist (including whatever you get from barspell or carol) is needed to be like Ruke on the KS99 Wyrm during the (hopefully very brief) time it's in the air?

    Re: Random Question Thread

You need 310-325 counting Gear + Barspell + Carol.

    Edit, corrected the amount.

    http://rukenshin.livejournal.com/14854.html#cutid1

    -Barfira
Very very useful for fights against Tiamat, I really don't recommend fighting him without it. As long as you have the proper support, the difference is HUGE and will save a lot of MP. The gear is all relatively cheap and easy to obtain as well (don't need HQs for it to work). Two corrections though in the screen shot, I now use Defending Ring in the ring1 slot and more often than not Resentment Cape(Lamia Mantle when nation controls area) for the back piece. With this set of gear plus Barfira/Carol from a WHM with merits/AF2 legs and a BRD with Crumhorn+1, I get about 350 barfira on the dot, which is a bit overkill. In reality you only need about 310-325 to resist at about 90-95% of the time. Anything over that is too much IMO, since you can never resist 100% of the time. If you make fun of how I look I'll kill you.

Guy, you still haven't made an argument, well besides "everyone knows it so it must be true."

At least the other people in the discussion are giving, you know, reasons for one back piece over another. I know this may be hard for you to understand, but you are literally saying nothing. (Well, besides, "Look at me, I am so cool!" LOL)

Either you have hate and you are running and the HB can take a moment before you use it, or you don't have hate and you have the ~5 seconds to use the HB. Over time, the benefit of 5 enmity is going to be even further enhanced over 3 enmity. Keeping hate isn't just important in the seconds after the claim, it is also important (more important) over time as your mages start to get too much hate. This is where the 5 enmity is always going to be more important than 3 enmity. You are acting like it takes 15 minutes to use the HB mantle, it doesn't, and compared to the rest of the kite time, activation is near non-existant.
