Yeah, I am thinking I should go as WAR next time and just destroy the first one with 2 MS'ed Rampages. Would make things a lot easier after they start SC linking.Originally Posted by skurlover

Whoring merts on BRD now, already got BLM and BRD capped out with all merits, now I want to work on my recently leveled DRK.
What order should I do merits in? (I don't exp much on DRK now, and I may use it for some end game events, don't have any omfgamazing items like kraken or BZ.)
Obviously things like Desprate Blows, Last Resourt Recast/Effect are good things to merit, but what order to do them and other catagories in?
I also already have capped scyth, critts and -enmity(lol).
I kind of like the idea of having capped Muted Soul. What's peoples thoughts on that?
I'm not looking for a massive discussion, hence no new topic; just some quick info would be awesome!
Thanks in advance! ^.^
So like, i am speed lvling cor and not gonna have much time to test different things myself, can someone give me a general idea of what gear i should be using through the levels and such? I have that whatchamacallit ring, luzafs or whatever.
I too endorse cookies.

So to restart, we had do to Y, Z, and Z's wyvern, then X's rabbit. Our restart was actually really bad, but we fought thru and timed out right as we were engaging the rabbit.
yeah, i remember trying to get bludgeon they'd stop aggroing/linking if i had their cards, cool shit, but inventory -1 x 52Originally Posted by Charismatic

quick question about fast cast and haste gear for rdm spells and setting up macros. i did a ton of searches and just needed some quick questions. a little background first. im leveling rdm, currently 44, im elvaan, have access to fairly high end gear(will be leveling into a dalm, blood cuisses, af2 is not out of the question, etc, have 8/8 HQ staves from my blm). this is not a way of me saying look at me im awesome, but mostly a way of me saying i feel kinda stupid asking this question, but i do think i am if not talented thus far at the job, competent and well informed. but i literally searched through 44 pages of search here and couldn't find my answer, and don't think it warrants a new topic. also last tidbit, i also use windower macros, and am familiar with using them.
so here goes my question. i am looking to maximize my use of refresh and soon haste with the use of haste and fast cast gear. i find that my most effective macros for party select macros are as such:
/ma "Refresh" <stpc>
//exec hastegear.txt
now here's the kicker... from everything that i've read, i know that fast cast has to be equipped at the start of a spell to take effect, but while it would be great to have a shorter casting time on haste and refresh, the two things im more concerned about are 1) reducing the recast time of said spells, and 2) not blinking prior to selecting my target for the spell, since that frequently causes the target to the lost, and is generally a giant pain in the ass. now my general standing setup unless the gods smile upon me and i get a duelist's pimp hat and an af2 body a lot sooner than i imagine i will, will likely be af1 hat and dalm, and switching to fast cast items such as loq. earring will not cause me to blink. but switching from say, elite beret, or if i do get af2 body or hat, would af1 hat or af2 body need to be equipped prior to the target being selected, or would they be fine being in said haste gear along with swift/speed belt, dusk feet and hands, that IS shield i dont think i'll seriously ever get, etc? or would they need to be equipped prior to the target being selected? i know that its micromanaging, but in this day and age of frequently being called upon to haste 4-5 ppl in a pt, or in an HNM pt where you're refreshing an entire pt, getting that recast timer down is really really helpful.
oh, and an elvaan rdm question, and actually not about mp... but rather about handgear. short of master caster's bracelets, which i can't get being from sandy, my options are to optimize my potency. i have devotee's +1, but my int options are appallingly sad. i use my rse, which give me int +1 and some mp, but other than that, it seems that im stuck with those until sly bracelets, which don't seem worth the pricetag until rse2, which are so not worth the pricetag that i sold them. so unless i missed something, are there really no better options until zenith for mp, and errant/yigit for int?
thanks for the help and suggestions, sorry for the long post![]()

@Martinius, the way I understand it is that to shorten the cast time, you need it equipped before the spell starts, but in order to shorten the recast, it's only necessary to equip it for the end of the spell. I may well be utterly wrong though.
Yes, Elvaan handpieces suck. However assuming you have enfeebling merits to go with the gear, dark magic debuffs shouldn't be resisted too much. I'm not even sure if there is a "potency" to Blind and Gravity, compared to Slow and Paralyze. Just gimp it up in Magna Gauntlets 'til you level into something better, I doubt anyone will complain.
many thanks obev... yes, i haven't finished my enfeebling merits just yet, getting my elemental to 8/8 took a little longer than i had planned so i am only 3/8 enf. at the moment and about 5k to my 4th enf. merit. but considering they only pick up every ten levels, i don't feel too bad being only one 'level' of merits behind at the moment(just level a party 3k into 45 on yhoator goblins by ifrits and was very pleased with my resist rates. having a remarkably smart bard whose opening song was earth threnody didn't hurt either). i suspect some week i'll gather my girlfriend and a group of friends and try to plow through the windy missions quickly and try to accumulate a mass of CP to get mst. casters, if only because i actually really enjoy sea, and they'd be really nice for sea, limbus and dynamis, but you're right, i even went through somepage, and there are very very few choices for int increasing hand gear.
also i very much hope you're right about the fast cast vs. recast reduction. if anyone else could chime in about that, or give a more definitive answer regarding my first question, it would be most appreciated. thanks!
What? I don't have a fresh imperial ID tag? What's the time limit for being "fresh"? How do you turn in a tag without signing up for a mission and giving back the orders? If I give back the orders, do I lose that tag?Originally Posted by Casey_

Selene's Bow vs. E bow/V bow For Ranger?
Currently lvling ranger, I have an S bow wondering if it's worth getting an E bow?
Martinus:
/ta <stpc>
//exec hastegear.txt
/ma "Refresh" <lastst>
That'll move the blink effect until you've already selected the appropriate target, and give you to equip your Fast Cast gear for a quicker Refresh cast. It'll also keep it (and your haste gear) on at the end for the shorter recast. I add in a /wait 5 and another //exec xxxxx.txt to return to my normal gear after casting. I use a similar macro for Haste, too.
Good luck!
Edit: Clarification
Haste gear doesn't affect casting time, only recast. Fast Cast gear affects both Casting time and recast time. To lower recast, you just have to have the gear equipped before the spell is finished casting. To lower casting time, it has to be equipped before you start casting the spell. So if you equip Fast Cast gear, then start casting, then equip haste, you will can get the best of both worlds (as long as the haste reduction is more then the fast cast reduction).Originally Posted by Martinius
Yeah, your pretty much screwed. I basically used RSE till MCBracelets. Then Errant/AF2/Yigit situationally.oh, and an elvaan rdm question, and actually not about mp... but rather about handgear. short of master caster's bracelets, which i can't get being from sandy, my options are to optimize my potency. i have devotee's +1, but my int options are appallingly sad. i use my rse, which give me int +1 and some mp, but other than that, it seems that im stuck with those until sly bracelets, which don't seem worth the pricetag until rse2, which are so not worth the pricetag that i sold them. so unless i missed something, are there really no better options until zenith for mp, and errant/yigit for int?
