this is misleading: you do get the same benefit assuming you have the same quantity (speaking strictly about attack speed and not tp gain) it is however, much harder to get straight delay reduction.
As I said, you get the same attack speed gain, you generally reduce your TP gain, in the same was that Dual wield does, so it doesn't give the full benefits of haste.

Since the DoT for 2h weapons isn't the vast majority of their output, it just doesn't strike me as wise to lengthen the time between WSes unnecessarily.

Going from my 6 hit War/Sam to 7 hit War/Anything else already feels slow, going back to 8 hits would kill my soul, lawl.[/quote:2gtb9793]

well see, you stated 'multiplicative' which I read as a comment on the increasing returns nature of haste (And other delay reducing effects) and not so much as "multiple benefits" as I see you now intended.

So you'd advocate taking Chiv Chain over P Charm? Don't get me wrong, I'll gladly take the cheaper alternative

To be honest I just got my rutters last night and I'm still experimenting on what works and what doesn't. If adding chiv lchain lets me keep Dusk Gloves on than I guess its worth checking out (unless you have a J torque, which I do not).

In this case, absolutely! I don't think that P Charm offers enough to justify the having to give up Rutters on WS with how accurate 2-handers are now. A Justice Torque on the other hand... LOL I wouldn't even give the Rutters a second look.

I did mean Multiple, was a little sleepy at the time I posted it.

There aren't many situations where Sword Strap won't be detrimental to your Tp building time, if you lack Rajas, and have certain delay weapons, then it gives a 3% DoT improvement, and nothing during WS.

Using Sword Strap and Store Tp gear is Similar to TPing in Rutters and a Swift belt, you're spending two gear slots to get less of a gain than you'd get from either one, and nullifying portions of both slots. It just makes me irrationally angry, I can't help it.

I prefer Sha'ir because they don't have -VIT as you will spend a lot of your time pulling and taking damage if you are not /NIN. (Plus they look so much nicer.) Keep the Slops (or Errant if you are on a budget) around for stoneskin if you are /WHM.

wasn't there a 'what should I wear' thread for either/or questions? (not that they don't necessarily belong here, just that the sorts of questions traditionally asked here were a little more complex than that).

    Questions about Mining:

I know I have seen answers to some of these in search. Some I have not seen answers to. I ask them all again for elaboration, clarification and second opinions.

Is there a hidden mining skill? If you think so, approximatly how long did you have to spend mining before you saw increased results?

Do mining results really decrease the longer you stay in zone? If so, how long does this take; hours, days, weeks?

Is the only effect of mining gear a reduction in axe breaks? Is HQ gear more effective for mining?

And lastly... 53 stacks of pickaxes used so far in Zhayolm... 0 Khroma, wtf?

    Re: Random Question Thread

mining and smithing are my two primary gil making ventures (one I do when I'm poor the other when I'm rich) I would estimate that I have done in the area of 1200 hours+ mining. (average 3 hours per trip, average 2 trips per week, play time ~4 years.)

    Questions about Mining:

Is there a hidden mining skill? If you think so, approximatly how long did you have to spend mining before you saw increased results? I go back and forth on this. I didn't start taking details notes until well after I would've reached "A10" skill if I had been chocobo digging (the one thing that we know has a hidden skill) and haven't seen any improvement. I do have consistently better results than any mining partners I have team-mined with, but this may have more to do with player experience and the fact that I can go through picks faster from being able to keep my inventory clearer (stopping to sort while mining slows you down). If it is true, I would assume that your 'skill' would rise at the same rate as chocobo skill does.

Do mining results really decrease the longer you stay in zone? If so, how long does this take; hours, days, weeks? Officially, yes; this was implemented on all helm activities (and fishing) to counteract RMT. it is possible that this has subsequently been ninja'd out - most career miners tend to zone every 1-2 hours anyway, either to refill on picks, as the result of a death, or due to full inventory.

Is the only effect of mining gear a reduction in axe breaks? Is HQ gear more effective for mining?
yes. it improves your pick retention rate. you do not need the legs. HQ gear is only defense. I don't have my original notes (lost the notebook) but I did tests with a friend's HQ gear vs. my NQ gear and the break rate over 100 picks per set was the same, once controlled for result variable. (i.e. miss break vs. ore break.) It is possible that HQ gear has a hidden additional effect of improving drop rate - if it does the effect is very small and no one has been able to prove it conclusively.

And lastly... 53 stacks of pickaxes used so far in Zhayolm... 0 Khroma, wtf?welcome to mining. most estimates put it at six hours ~continuous to hit a khroma on average, so you may not be staying long enough (mining results are only pseudo random.) moon phase also plays a role in mining - similar to fishing, I would assume. try varying the moonphase when you mine, if you mine at approximately the same time each trip.

No, Yes (zone once an hour is the common answer), Yes, No, /comfort.

Well, the stats on the Coronal are very nice, so I would think that you should look for other places to find accuracy first. For example, PCC instead of the Chiv Chain. It would net you the same increase in accuracy with one more strength.

Other options include Galliard Trousers instead of Homam Cosciales, netting +1 Accuracy and +2 STR. Life instead of Potent might be another option but there is a loss of STR there. Also, I assume you are using a Tiphia Sting, but if not then definitely pick one up.

There are more I am sure, you just need to hunt around a bit.

I, personally and others probably wont agree with me on this LOL, don't like Gigas Bracelets because of the loss of accuracy. I don't really know what the alternatives are there so I can't say for sure, and if there isn't much then stick with it.
Could you clarify what you mean by the PCC giving the same increase in accuracy with one more strength? There isn't any STR on the PCC... do you mean that the extra 5 ACC will outweigh the +3 STR from Chivalrous?

a little more on the mining skill thing: it used to be hotly debated - the experienced miners have always put up results that make other people goggle (I never do worse than 4 darksteel/gold an hour in gusgen no matter what conditions I mine under and have with some routine exceeded 12 darksteel/gold in an hour, for instance; the general consensus when gusgen was a popular mine was 3-6 darksteel/gold an hour under the best conditions.)

but like all repetitive tasks in this game (especially ones that aren't really character dependent) alot of your output comes from economy of motion - I know where to go in the mine, I can estimate where other miners will be and avoid crossing points right after they have, and I have the smithing skill to melt -everything- I dig up that doesn't get immediately tossed - which allows me to never stop to sort inventory while standing at a point.

synthing in the abstract would slow you down - but there is a waxing and waning effect on point spawns along every loop (assuming the mine isn't at capacity) and you can learn to judge these to take advantage of your 'free' time.

today, the 'do helm activities have hidden skills?' questions are largely just curiousity. either you enjoy doing the activity or you don't; regardless of what some grizzled veteran miner is doing in terms of output you can't influence or power your way up - it's purely a function of how many points you hit (whether from ingame skill or player experience); and it's profitable from day one.

I believe he means using Coronal + PCC instead of OHat + Chiv Chain. The net stats from both pieces combined are 15acc 4STR vs 15acc 3STR.

Ahh ok... so in other words, ACC is so important that even Coronal & Chivalrous Chain's 10 acc 7 str is outweighed by dropping the chain and getting the PCC in?

I macro in Yigit Gomlek, start casting, then macro in Marduk's Jubbah. The Jubbah is definitely worth the money compared to the Manteel, especially if you are like me and aren't getting a Dalmatica anytime soon.
