um... how do i solo on nin?
or rather im trying to take nin from 15 to 37, mostly on solo/xp scrolls, since most of my money is better spend on limbus at the moment, so party play is kind off the book.
Do i sub /whm and use wheel spam as if it was a normal xp pt ? Also, what can i solo?
I can solo T's with not much problem on RDM and DRG, but cures and bigger dmg are very handy.
Any help is appreciated :D
I solo'd up to 50. Personally I don't think the wheel is worth doing until you get the :Ni spells at 40. They just take too long to cast. You could do more damage with weapon swings during the casting time than the spell will do anyway.Originally Posted by Tajin
I subbed /RDM. You can still cure yourself but you also get a INT boost (not as important pre-40 for you) and Fast Cast bonus, which does help a little with recast times and casting times for Utsu. Again, more useful at higher levels; if you don't have RDM leveled I expect /whm would work as well.
I also have a fully leveled NPC. I set it on Soothing Healer so I could concnetrate on DDing. If something got through my shadows, the NPC would take care of it. This allowed to me save my own mp for emergency situations or whatever. The extra NPC damage + no downtime to rest for your own mp allowed me to get a steady chain 2-3 up until the mid 30's. At that point I found my damage slacking off compared to the hp of the mobs I was doing and xp slowed down. This last until 40, when you can wheel for crazy damage, but you won't need to worry about that.
My strategy was just to go to xp zones slightly later than parties (staying out of party camps). So Qufim till 29, 1st jungle till 33 or so, etc. I always used Xp Ring + NPC once per day, then stopped xping when the ring wore and/or my NPC left (ring almost always wears 1st. This gave me a steady 3000 xp/day with another 2500-3000 per week from scrolls, for about 24000 xp/week, which will get you through those low levels pretty fast with only about an hour to 90 minutes per day spent.
This is pretty much how I solo all my non-main jobs. I'm about to ding 29 PUP doing this same thing solo and have done other jobs such as BLU and DRG using this same basic strategy.
Holy shit thats a lot of xp. thanks :D
guess now i have to get my npc up because mine just casts dia and paralyze <.<
What's the duration on Spartan Hoplon?
I'm considering buying multiple of these to rotate for exp parties on my 56 paladin if the duration is adequately long. Thanks!
Um some quick questions about Group II merits that ain't on the wiki: (these hold my guesses)
Mostly I'm asking the initial values of the first merit.
Savagery (10 TP Bonus with 1 merit?)
Aggressive Aim (Hard to test I'd guess... full bonus on first merit and additional bonus following it?)
Mantra (HP +4% on first upgrade?)
Formless Strikes (50%?)
Invigorate (24 seconds?)
AM II (Kind of noobish of me to ask, since I'm a BLM, but is there an initial MB bonus? Never tested it...)
Penance (20 seconds?)
Ikishoten (3 TP?)
to my knowledge, there is no MB bonus to the intial AMII. basically the first merit gives you access to the spell, and the subsequent upgrades give you the bonus to MB and magic accuracy.
didnt get an answer in my seperate thread but i want an answer!
Did a skillchain : gekko > mercy stroke to make darkness dmg against JOL.
In dark mode, ice, fire, water, light, wind, thunder he took damage from the skillchain
In earth mode, it healed him.
Why![]()
wow that's fascinating. perhaps because gekko makes darkness off of gravitation? that still wouldnt explain why it didnt regen when in dark mode, but just a thought.

theres the ss![]()
Drain II works too.
Anyway, is there a way to fuck with the text color so it's overly noticeable when an enfeeble wears off.
Have to change text color of everything else in the game, then "XXX's slow effect wears off" will be only thing in white.
If I recall correctly, the log text isn't accurate 100% of the time. A good example is going to be Puks who absorb wind damage. If you use the WS tachi: Jinpu, one of the hits is wind elementaled, but the other other isn't. Since it has a large weakness to wind, you can get very high Jinpus (I've seen 1.5k+), yet it can gain HP. This is because the text log can't discern between each individual hit. If you want to run tests... try doing SCs such as Fragmentation and Light on a puk, and see how the text reads, and how the HP moves.
Either 3 or 5 minutes, i cant remember exactly havent used it in forever. One thing to keep in mind if you are going to use is xp is that you are worthless for about 30 seconds during the cast and before you can do anything after. So the only time its really viable is between pulls IF you have that much time between pulls. I tried it for a while and realized that it wasnt worth it, too many times the puller came back and I couldnt voke for 5-10 seconds.Originally Posted by Vaxx
Also keep in mind that the effect dissapears if you change shields.
SAMs:
How much of an impact do GKT merits make? I wouldn't think it makes you hit harder on your WS, and you'll probably be subbing THF more often than not on bigger NMs so accuracy really isn't that big of an issue (obviously on TP gain it does, but then again you have Med). Are 4 GKT merits worth it, or if I'm planning to go with 4, would they be better spent elsewhere?
I guess I'll throw out the fact that SAM primarily wouldn't be used for anything but hard shit (HNMs/Gods/Jailers/whatever).
generally speaking, gkt merits(im also a little biased b/c i have bushinomimi, which is basically 2.5 gkt merits in and of itself) will have less of an impact on hnms, but are extremely beneficial in situations where you'll be able to eat meat when you otherwise wouldnt be able to(such as xping on trolls, which arent as evasive as mamool ja, but no where near the epeen of cadaerva mire).
in essence, 4 gkt merits will be like wearing a sniper's ring +1 and gives 7.2(?) attack. does it mean that you'll be able to eat meat on byakko and fafnir and parse at 99% acc? no. the HNMs you consistently have to eat sushi on, you'll still need sushi, and the ones you dont just get even squishier.
my game plan will likely end up being 4 gkt, 4 marksmanship and 4 h2h. and then i'll bitch about how SE needs to make the cap for a particular skill 8(which it is currently) but give us more merits to swap around in that category.
4 merits and a Justice Torque should be legit dawgOriginally Posted by Epical
I've currently got combat merits put into my two DD jobs I use most. I got PLD 75 a few weeks ago and have been wondering if it's worth it to put those 4 merits in shield and take out of my other combat skills. If it matters I've been going PLD main to most events ever since I got it to 75 (some things I still use my DD jobs though). Also, right now I'm 4 crit 3 enmity 1 spell rate down. Should I change that? I'd hate to give up the crit rate for more enmity or spell.. Obviously for PLD optimal would be 4enm/4spell but I still do use my other jobs, so I don't know. Also, what do your PLD tier 1 merits look like?
If you use your PLD often, Shield merits are invaluable. I wouldn't worry about enmity/spell int though.Originally Posted by Keno
