    Re: Random Question Thread

I'm pretty sure I asked this in the massive Chocobo Raising thread in May, but I don't recall getting a satisfactory answer there and of course it's lost anyway, so posing my question again here, because I imagine it'll get more views, and I don't feel like bumping the other one.

I'm taken to understand that people have had chocobos born with 2 abilities. My question is, has anyone ever had a chocobo born with two from which one parent has 2 and the other has none? Or is it always the case that each parent has 1 or 2 abilities and the baby is born with one from each?

    What quest is this?
I think it's called Not Meant to Be, you start it in Nashmau, over by the north exit. A red headed Mithra starts the quest. Bunch of running around in Mire before you fight 2 NMs, a Lamia and Qutrub. Highly recommend a party of 75s. Cool story, rewards about...3 Imperial Gold I think.

Got a question of my own. At the risk of sounding stupid, I know gravity reduces your movement speed, as well as evasion...in that sense, wouldn't Flee or any other movement+ raise evasion as well? Doubtful, but I'm wondering if anyone else has figured this out. Just something I wondered the other day.

I think it's more to do with the fact that's it's a wind-based spell and wind is the AGI element (associated with evasion.) Also I don't think it always had the evasion-down effect, and it was probably added to make the spell more usefull in exp?

You know, this is a stupid question, but it does make sense lol.

Most movement down items dont lower your evasion though. Wearing dusk, for example, doesnt lower evasion. The evasion down is strictly an effect from 'weight'.

On that topic, and well probably there is no way to really tell but:

Ugh, I'm having a hard time justifying to myself that I should keep my Dusk Gloves. If I sold them, I could get Hanzo Tekko, Unji, and Unsho, which I would assume would give me a much larger damage (over time) output than keeping Dusk. The 1 second I gain on Utsusemi and very marginal swing speed increase hardly seems worth the 900k price tag. As a matter of fact, as I type this, I think I've made up my mind. =P

Damn, you can get Unji and Unsho for the price of dusk there? Unsho is almost equal to dusk still here >.> That's not that crazy of a tradeoff provided you don't use those gloves on any other job.

Unji and Unsho TOGETHER here are ~500k. And yeah, I can use the Hanzo stuff on MNK too (and SAM soon).

Unji price coming down Unsho coming down as well but still at 2milish on sylph. Dusk gloves are like one mil.

and gravity didn't always have -evasion it was added later on. I assume it was added in the stage before rdm had refresh so they could be more useful to pt but i could be wrong.

edit: And my question is does bst charmed pet take exp from pt if its EM to him but T to us?

Exp is determined by the highest level in the PT, which in this case would be your bst. It will act as if there's another member at his level in PT, which should bomb exp by a lot since you'll be factoring as 7 people instead of 6 (assuming normal exp PT).

Incorrect. Having a charmed pet at end of fight will only ever effect the BST's exp for the fight. However, if the pet was the highest level member of the party, that is the level used to determine exp, even if the BST uses leave. It's same reason you can't have a higher level join your party, melee the mob down to 5% and then disband for full exp.

EDIT: To answer the original question more exactly, no it would not because it doesn't raise the highest level of the party.

THF currently has +50 Acc along with Capped Dagger Merits.

Worthwhile to swap Chiv.Chain for Specs? (PCC Out of price range)

A thf friend of mine has a question about X's Knife (DMG: 34 Delay: 201 Increases Critical Hit Damage Lv. 72 THF / BST). He cannot find any information (parsed against other daggers, what combos work well with it, ect.). He's gone about 0/20 on the bc and I believe he's getting discouraged. Does anyone have the damn thing and can give some personal experience?

This is an Alla post, but Kwontos has a history of being logical and supporting his posts (Alla Link).

In summary, X's Knife has been tested to
    • add 10% damage to all critical hits[/*:m:0a2bb]
    • function as an offhand weapon, thus affect both hands[/*:m:0a2bb]
    • affect Sneak and Trick Attack[/*:m:0a2bb]

    It seems very good.

    Hope that helps

    Edit:
Note, alla seems to be re-directing my "direct post" link above to the "thread" instead. If you want the exact post, click the link in the following code block:
    Code:

Otherwise it'll re-direct you to this:
    Code:

It's weird that a "code block link" and a standard "embedded link" exhibit different behaviors...

That link you provided shows that it adds 10% damage when your pdif is capped, but has there been testing to show whether it it adds .3 to pdif or 10% damage? In real world situations adding .3 would be a bit better.

Nevermind, there was a link in the wiki to a thread asserting it's "only" 10%.

    Re: Random Question Thread

When scouring the 3rd map areas of aqueducts last night for a map (yes, i'm a map dork. it's the OCD collector in me.) i found a ??? in the northwest corner of j-7. now, there are a lot of ???'s in these rooms. 2 of the rooms have 2 ???'s to open the hidden walls, another ??? is hidden in J-9 with the elemental alignment chart displayed when you check it, and yet another contains the map. this one, however, was unusual in that it displayed the message "you find nothing out of the ordinary." and did not open any doors. does anyone know what it's for? i didn't see any quests that involved that ???.

Bagel is right. So long as the pet is not of a higher level than anyone else in the party, it would affect only the XP of the BST in the party (native pet = 30% cut to BST XP if not released). It would not affect the XP of other party members. Note also that it does not factor into the apparent number of people in the party.

Hope this helps. Invite that BST gogogo.
