Personally...Enhancing would only really benefit En-Spells and Phalanx and thereby only be used in solo play/melee whereas Elemental would probably save me MP on the rare ocassions that I do Nuke and would probably see use in Solo as well as LS Events/Farms.

Stick them all in Elemental then?
elemental will help with your nukes and your elemental enfeeble accuracy, the latter of which can be very significant if you're capable of tuning your int on par with a blm, which shouldn't be that tricky, especially subbing blm. enfeebling, on the other hand, enhances your en-spells, phalanx, and to a far lesser degree (i believe) phalanx2. if you do a lot of salvage/soloing and use phalanx2 heavily for low floor damage mitigation, you might want to go with the enhancing merits, meanwhile, if you find you toss around a fair number of nukes and ele enfeebs, go with the ele merits. bottom line is, i don't think you'll find that either has THAT profound an effect on rdm, though. my view may be slanted, however, due to the fact that i've had capped ele merits from blm since i finished rdm iirc, so take that with a grain of salt.

Not sure if all SAM mobs have Zanshin, but at least some of them do.

if it's like the wyvern patch thing: mobs introduced prior to the implementation of zanshin probably won't have zanshin whereas sam mobs introduced after the patch should have zanshin. this is similar to how AV uses Call wyvern as a 2hr still, even though it's a 20 minute ability for newer drg jobs - like the drg class reserve draugars in arra.reef.

of course, mobs have subjobs too (even if they're the same as the main job) and I wouldn't put it past SE to make racial double attack traits someday (if not already; looking at you chariots.) so there's alot of ways that a presumably samurai job mob could swing multiple times.

I'm pretty sure Dynamis DRKs use Absorb-TP, so that's not necessarily true.

Agreed, it is a situational thing. Some RDMs are more prone to nuking than others. The last time I nuked something was for my second character's Bastok 9-2 mission, before that I can't even remember. When I solo I melee things down because I dislike down time and like to leave convert up for emergencies. The LS events that I attend on RDM are things like Fafnir, Proto-Ultima, and Ouryu where RDM nuking is a huge waste of MP. For me, Elemental Merits are less than useful.

But chances are that we have different styles of play. Balance it out with what you do, and remember, you can always split Elemental and Enhancing up. Nothing requires you to have a solid 8- 2/6, 4/4, 7/1 can work if that's how you use them.

    Re: Random Question Thread

I have a question about the later end-game THF WS gear setups...throughout reading many threads on this board, I see more WS equipment leaning towards STR instead of DEX/AGI...does the boosted DEX for SA and AGI for TA not help as much in the higher levels? or is just boosting your fSTR ideal instead of boosting the base damage?

My THF's only 41, so all I know at the moment are that DEX and AGI make me happy >:3...at what point should I switch to a STR/ATK mindset?

For head/body/hands/legs/feet, it's an easy choice, hecatomb is pretty much the best readily obtainable gear for all those slots. Neck is easy too, ltorque if you have it, otherwise gorget. From there on, I guess it's just personal preference. I lean more towards the dex/acc side for WS because of fulltime meat, but i suppose if you were using sushi you'd have to compensate for that somewhere D:

spells are different: notice that paladins stopped casting Banish III after SE changed the jobs that could cast it.

Is Dual Wield+1 equal to Haste +1% in terms of attack speed? In what ways are they the same/different (does DW get better with haste/more DW, etc)?

simplistically: they're identical except that one applies before your TP is calculated, and the other applies after. the effect in terms of attack speed is basically equivalent.

sure looks like zanshin to me

although I wish my proc rate was that good. - now that makes me wonder why older NM drgs still use call wyvern and not spirit surge though.

    Re: Random Question Thread

It might be because Zanshin is a Job Trait, not a Job Ability. Job Abilities are not updated for mobs, such as Dragoon mobs before the Spirit Surge patch still have Call Wyvern as their two-hour.

I think you mean Fort torque?

Torque will probably win due to the attack bonus, imo.

As awkward as it feels giving this person credit, Genome's LJ is probably the most info-filled MNK LJ out there.
