When I ding 45 Monk tomorrow (finally!) can I mostly just leave Counterstance up 24/7 when I'm not fighting something that could one-shot me (i.e. Sickle Slash from Spiders, etc) when I've got a decent tank?
Or is having it on a big Enmity+ thing like Souleater seems to be?
I've seen mixed reports of both.
Using it during battle is a bit more haste than Boost I think, so people tend to think the JA pulls hate, but it doesn't. Try to use it before you engage and everything should be ok :3Originally Posted by evilpaul
Personally I kept it on from 45-75. People tend to complain that it burns mp blahblah, personally I think it saves more MP than constantly getting hit would cost >_>;;
Just remember that Counter is also based on your accuracy; if you're overcamping or not using sushi, watch using counterstance or it -will- burn your mage's mp.
The JA itself gives a decent amount of hate, so just use it between fights unless you have no choice.Originally Posted by evilpaul
I used counterstance a lot while leveling, and I found that it wasn't really worth it to use it on things with physical AoEs or multi-hit physical TP moves on me. (Or sickle slash...the spiders in mamook were doing 1200+ damage sickle slashes on me without counterstance...) When I sub NIN, I use counterstance a lot more, but I still don't use it on mamool.
A quick question about the newest toy at my disposal...
My linkshell is just starting to get into {sea} NMs; we killed Jailer of Faith for the first time today, and I ended up with the Faith Baghnaks that dropped. I've heard conflicting reports on them; the majority seem to indicate that for most farming/EXPing targets, they outperform Destroyers. I'd love to just start wearing them full-time, as I was getting a little tired of the green cesti look, but I'd like some expert opinions first... What would and wouldn't you want to use Faiths on over Destroyers, and what else would you need gear-wise to make it worthwhile?
When I duo'd with a SMN, he popped it with Titan out while the other Aerns in the room weren't near. Titan auto-defended and the SMN never got hate, and all the other Aerns linked onto him (titan). From there, it was a matter of pure luck on if he made it past the Ghrahs on the way back. Since there were 4 Ghrahs, we usually took out 2 of them as RDM, SMN duo to increase his odds on making it back. Out of probably 10 fights (so I'll say 1/10 for cape from single organ for us) he only ended up sac-pulling ~3. He died on a couple other tries, but that was a mid-fight hate problem (I was /PLD for Autorefresh and Flash and Sentinel in emergencies). Probably half of our fights were perfect with no deaths at all.Originally Posted by BRP
Without a SMN for duo partner, then your best bet of a death free pull is either outrunning the links via movement speed, or kiting them till they depop as mentioned above.
Where would I go for a collection of FFXI storyline information?

Well they will eat virtue stones extremely fast, you need a very large supply of them to wear them "full time." I'm not a mnk, but when I kill shit with my mnk friend they look like alot of fun.Originally Posted by UnwittingInsomniac
Do any DRG mobs have the 2hr ability Spirit Surge? I ask this because after the update that gave PC DRGs Spirit Surge, I haven't seen a single mob use it. Also it seems that DRG mobs continue to use "Call Wyvern" as their 2-hr. Most notable of these is Dynamis DRGs and the DRG in ENM 60, Pulling the Strings. When the Fanto recieves the 2-hr roll, he uses Call Wyvern. Don't NPC DRGs deserve a buff too?
NPC dragoons introduced after the update have call wyvern on a 20 minute timer (see draguars who run around with them and periodically resummon)Originally Posted by Jones
I don't believe any new NM dragoons have been introduced since the patch - but I'm not 100% certain.
older dragoons (base game, RoZ, CoP etc) continue to have wyvern as their 2 hour. this is why non-nm dragoons in davoi and other places don't have wyvern mobs assisting them.
I'm pretty certain there's a besieged drg nm that uses spirit surge. I think this guy.Originally Posted by Jones
Is M.Acc any useful at all for blu? If so, which Nashira parts are a 'must' for main blu?
Does Hasso's boost to accuracy boost ranged accuracy as well? I had thought that since it says "accuracy", that means just melee accuracy, but I know that RNG's "Accuracy Bonus" applies to ranged accuracy as well.
The body is potentially useful for utsusemi recast, but none of it is a 'must' for blu at all. The head probably the piece most would want to use, for landing static debuffs like frightful roar, however these spells have very high accuracy to begin with, and the effect of macc+5 is virtually impossible to notice. For attack magic you are better off stacking hp/int/mnd/chr/whatever, not small amounts of macc in those slots... I have head/legs/feet and would only use them as town gear for blu, not even worth the inventory space - to carry around imo.Originally Posted by Kaope
The besieged drg mamool definitely uses spirit surge, but I can't recall what it does when he uses it. The mamool drgs also have call wyvern on a 20 minute timer just like a player, if they've been up for a while, they will resummon wyvern immiedietly after it dies, but when you kill it again it's on a 20 minute wait.
How long can a Paladin solo? I'm enjoying beating up T Yagudo in Giddeus, but I dunno how long those fun times will last >_>
Especially without ambrosia D:
Pretty much any job can solo; it just depends on the type of prey you're going after. My PLD has been 75 for a while now, but I'd imagine that PLD could chain EP/DC pretty well all the way to Qufim and maybe even past that.Originally Posted by Tradition
I have not tested, but have heard and I believe there are parses floating around to confirm that with /NIN Destroyers are still on top, but if you can /WAR then the Faith can pull ahead. Too close to matter? Maybe.Originally Posted by UnwittingInsomniac
