Well, to be honest there's a huge difference. The exp bonus and base difference from actually chaining 2 or 3 EM mobs in a row generally beats out the 4 or 5 EP/DC mobs you'd kill in that time frame.
Who says you need to stop at 4-5 mobs?Originally Posted by Ferien
Let's not argue semantics, we all know that killing more mobs at a lower exp rate is faster than killing less EM/T mobs.
Quite true...only problem with not fighting EM/T mobs is that some of your skills will be under-cap when you reach party-exp, buuuut; shouldn't be that hard getting shield skill back up while tankingOriginally Posted by Credos

Killing T/VTs instead of ITs is a LOT different than killing EP/DCs instead of EM/Ts. You don't get chain bonuses for EP/DCs, the base rate is less than half on them, and it takes nearly the same amount of time. With T/VTs vs ITs, you still get the chain bonus, the base rate is generally within 75%, and it takes significantly less time to kill them.Originally Posted by Credos
Yes, it makes sense to kill T/VTs instead of ITs, but it doesn't make sense to kill EP/DCs instead of EMs. 25~50 xp for 5 kills does not equal 100~150 xp for 3, and the reason I use those numbers is because that's about the ratio you'll be killing them at.
So explain how you get 50 kill per DC mob and 100 exp for a EM mob? Seems like that's a 50% ratio to me. Sometimes I even get 72+ exp on them, and that's more than half for a DC mob. I'd love to know how you came about the ratio of killing speed. 1-10 I can more than certainly solo more than 4-5 mobs without needed to rest, and the same is for 10-20. The trick is how you solo them. You get TP on EP mobs, then WS on DC. The same can be done on EP > EM/T mobs too.Originally Posted by Ferien
I've leveled all of my jobs to at least level 37 and done it this way without any issues whatsoever. I stopped soloing EM/T mobs because of the downtime involved. But to each his own; you have your way and I have mine.
DCs generally give 50 or 72, and EPs give 30 or less. EMs give 100 each, and if you kill them quickly enough to get a chain, you're getting an extra 20%, 25%, 30% etc. You don't get this on the EPs. If you can get 100, 120, 125 in the same amount of time it takes you to get 72, 50, 50, 72, 25, which is better? Yes, killspeed is always dependent on the job you're leveling and whether or not it has merits applied from a previous 75, but generally killspeed isn't too much worse.
But that's how I used to do it. I have a 75 BRD now that I use to PL myself, so I generally just chain VT-ITs to 37 now.
LOL Ahh, I got it. I more was thinking that he meant killing them back to back without rest, rather than specifically getting a XP chain.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
For Chocobo Hot and Cold, the treasure is a certain distance from the ??? or something right? What is it?
(If Septimus could waltz on in here and explain ;; )
I have two characters, so it makes life a lot easier when doing this. Generally, I try to ascertain the center of the ??? spot on the map. (You zoom into the map as close as you can, then pay attention to where your characters are in relation to the block where the ??? appears. As long as your characters are on the ???, you should be fine.) I then walk one character away from the other character who is acting as my central point until I get to the correct distance (this depends on where you are digging) and dig north, west, south, and east until I find the cold "Kweh" or hot "Kwehhhh". If I discover the cold Kweh at two of the cardinal directions, I then check ordinal. (So if I get a hit at north then west, I will then go to north-west and check. If it is not there, I will check east then north-east.) Normally you will not have to bother with interordinal points in regular zones, but keep in mind that you may have to.Originally Posted by Rocl
Once I have the hot message, I bring my other character over to act as the center point again. I take a step back from the center and dig in the cardinal directions, if you get two hot messages out of the four, check the ordinal direction, if you get one or three hot messages, take another step back from the mid point of them. Once you get the on fire "K-KWEHHH" message, dig until you get the treasure.
My favorite zone is Jugner Forest. There you can find the treasure generally when the mark on your radar for your other character hits the "N". (If you don't have extended radar from NIN or RNG, about 13 distance.) In Buburimu Peninsula the treasure has a much larger radius, like to the end of a standard radar. I think Valkurm Dunes is about the same as Jugnar, but that place is horrible and I won't dig there.
There you go, everything you wanted to know about Chocobo Hot & Cold.
Is it possible to widescan for Carmine Dobsonflies from the area before the unstable displacement? Every time I've gone I haven't seen anything, but I'm not sure if it's just because they weren't up, or if it's too far![]()
there are other mobs on the island including iirc, clusters and a couple of the nasty drakes. if you can't see them, you can't widescan that far. hope that helps some.Originally Posted by Raylinn
I am 90% sure that you are unable to widescan them, there are also bombs on that island, so if you're getting nothing then chances are you can't widescan outside of the island your currently on.Originally Posted by Raylinn

Quick question: Brutal Earring or +HP earring for Souleater zerg?
Also, Haste belt counts towards magic or equipment haste cap?
Belt counts towards magic-based Haste cap. Get an Intruder Earring (only useful if you're doing stuff in sky I guess or Dynamis Lord or Bahamut or whatever), you won't need Brutal with a multihit weapon.
Barring Intruder, I'd get a Physical Earring. Cheaper than a Bloodbead or Pigeon +1 but with the same effect![]()
Could get Cassie too.Originally Posted by Tradition
