    Re: Random Question Thread

    1) Does anyone have a macro-guide for mages or some sort? I've just recently started rdm as my first mage job, and already I can feel the pressure of not having enough macros (even as lowbies).

    2) Anyone knows any good LJs for rdm?

http://kanican.livejournal.com/ has lots of BLM specific macros, but you can apply what you learn there to RDM as well.

I'd mostly just focus on macroing your most used spells (along with a /recast "Spell" line after it), and then adding in gear with skill+ or stat+ as you get it. Other than stat rings and devotee mitts there's not that much gear to swap around at low levels.

I just wrote up Macros for gear swaps and use spells from the menu. Only thing I ever bothered to Macro was Refresh [With an echo so I can see who was last], Dispel [stnpc] and Erase.

The rest are gear swaps. MP Set, Nuke Set, MND set, Rest Set, Fastcast Set and Enfeebling set.
Convert macro is basically my MP set with Convert/Divine Seal added to it
I also have macros that only swap staves.

a /recast macro with the spells you use most are also useful

If I get enough time I'll copy them up into my LJ and explain 'em.

EDIT: Posted my Macros and some gibberish to accompany them in my LJ. Link in sig.
    Hope you find it useful

this is basically how I do it too. I have macros for gear swaps and job abilities, (especially the seals) and do most of my casting either from the menu or by typing the spell.

one trick that can save you space (although it's more useful on whitemage than rdm) is that you can stack two equip swaps for the same slot on top of each other, and pushing the macro will alternate between them. (don't know if this works with windower macros, never tried)

so like, my templar mace / noble's tunic / etc macro has the cleric's briault immediately after the tunic, so each time I press the macro I swap between the two bodies.

you can do a similar trick with stacking useful JA's from subjob too, basically line 1: Eseal, line 2: wait 1, line 3: DSeal - the one that you have subbed will fire, the one that you don't won't.(duh)

    Re: Random Question Thread

I have no clue where to look for this (and I have checked this site and ffxiclopedia to no avail, or at least I am searching incorrectly), but does anyone know of a leveling guide I could find on the usual camps from lvl 1-75? I'm lvling my first job past 37 in like 2 years, so I kind of wanted a guide of all the camps you could possibly go to, especially with all these new ToAU camps. I know I have seen one somewhere, does anyone know where I might find one? Thanks.

I've got.. yeah, 2 standing macros, the barspell macro, 3 enfeebling macros (1 for all the gear, 2 for stacked stave swaps, ice/wind/earth/dark) stoneskin macro, then resting.

at least the obis don't make you blink! :D but yeah, I notice alot more blinking among mages than we used to do, now that there's pieces available with stats other than +int/+mnd/-enfeebling for each slot. (especially skill)

This exact question was asked a while ago. Maybe its time to lock this thread and start a new one. LOL

I'd like to keep this one going, people should search! (although I suspect that might not search well) and questions about specific gear vs. gear should probably go in the what's better? thread, probably.

Bhaflau Thickets (Nyzul Isle staging point)
    Mamool Ja Staging Point
Mount Zhayolm (Puddings for magey types, Wamoura for both party types, Trolls for TP burn/rangerburn/normal pt, all within the Gates of Halvung).
I would say Wamoura and wamouraprince for manaburn party only. Since both of them got some gayness aoe burn/dia.

unless i misunderstand on the "both party types" then >.>

    Re: Random Question Thread

Random question I can't seem to find the answer to:

Anyone know the command to check NPC (Adventure Fellow) HP% and TP (not sure if this one is possible though). I knew the one for HP a couple months ago, but forgot since then. The TP one is the main one I'm interested in.

    Re: Random Question Thread

My SAM is 42 right now, and I've got a Soboro Sukehiro waiting for me at 50. Should I start using the Soboro at 50? Or should I wait til 60, or even 75? Should I only use it with a specific sub, like RNG, or will it still be better than using a normal GK for damage with WAR subbed?

If this has been discussed in this thread already, then please direct me to the discussion if you don't feel like repeating it. ^^

    Re: Random Question Thread

Personally I did Soboro from 50 till 73 (which is where my SAM is at now), if you decide to do the same I'd suggest doing SAM/WAR for most of the levels till about 70+ before switching to /RNG. Having some extra +racc gear available like O.Hat and Merman Rings helps a lot in actually landing those Sidewinders. Also, Mamool+/RNG don't mix well. Spongefly/Imp/Jnun+/RNG mix very well. Greater Colibri I don't know but I'm sure with good enough gear you can land Sidewinders reasonably reliable aswell.

at 50 it's magnificently overpowered, at around lvl 59, when the dahliyanna comes into play, it becomes much more situational. provided that your tank can maintain hate, you're solo weaponskilling(or pting w/ someone who can keep up with your tp gain, ie, a well geared mnk or thf w/ a m kris who knows to split TA and SA post 60), or most importantly fighting mobs that do not have seriously detrimental aoe ws(bomb toss, windshear and spider web come to mind, there are plenty of others), the soboro is still an amazing weapon. however, if the amount of tp you're feeding the mob overpowers the amount of damage you're doing, you're better off using a stronger damage gkt to buff your weaponskills.

as for subbing rng, i subbed warrior from 1-75, with the exception of 66-70, when i subbed thf. this was because i was in a static from 30-70, and so the most efficient use of our skillchain since we couldn't make darkness or light, was to make shark bite > gekko for distortion. we had a crazy, but immensely talented bard who would have our thf trick onto him, and then i'd trick hate back onto our ninja to finish the skillchain. ranger is a very powerful subjob, but even with merits in archery(my rng was 75 before my sam), i found that gkt weaponskills were simply a more efficient use of damage prior to lvl 70. while r. acc gear is plentiful and fairly inexpensive, you're never going to get away from sushi until at least 71(when you get shigeto, as well as ohat and jse body legs and feet at 70) and as such, your damage will suffer accordingly. this isn't to say that in some situations you'll need and use sushi even when /war, but an A+ weapon vs. a C- weapon, the gkt will generally provide better results unless fighting high T, low VT mobs, which following most traditional leveling paths, won't be acceptable until the levels at which you're meriting. that said, by the time you get to 75, sam/rng is a blast with a soboro, particularly in mire, puks, loldweapons, etc. i also have a personal love of subbing rng on sam in city dynamis(you reach dimishinging returns in beaucidine the further you get in, and it's just stupid in xarc).

i hope this helps and enjoy your toy!

The word "meripo" (as in, a merit party) originated from the Japanese players right? If not, what do the Japanese players call a merit party in Romanji?

I'm 99% certain it came from the JP players.

Sidenote: Meripo isn't an english/american term. If you're not JP, don't fucking use it, it's equal to using "w".

    Re: Random Question Thread

Why not? It sounds better than "merit party" and a lot of people understand what it means. It is just like the deal with "D2".
Personally, I use "lol" more and rarely use "w".

Why do some people hate/dislike non Japanese players using Japanese terms?
