I don't see any other good SAM AF+1 from Limbus
Hence why I've been sitting with both SAM items in my MH for months.

    Speaking of Limbus:

    For Proto-Ultima, PLD/NIN+PLD/NIN vs PLD/NIN+NIN/DRK.

    Re: Random Question Thread

I prefer dual PLD/NIN for cross curing and better survivability vs. TP Moves etc, NIN/DRK can be hard to balance hate with a PLD but stun is always nice.

How exactly does a PLD/NIN keep up with NIN/DRK for enmity generation?

I said balance, not directly saying one was better. It honestly depends on the fight and setup. Provided the PLD has enough MP and them or others are taking damage that they can cure back, they will have a ton of hate, to the point where a NIN/DRK would have to work very hard to keep up. On the other hand, if the PLD doesn't have the mp supply or people aren't getting hurt so they have nothing to cure, the NIN/DRK will far surpass them in holding hate. Personally I like being able to have my cotank heal me when I can't cure myself (instead of a mage having to do it) on PLD/NIN and I find it easier to balance (read : bounce hate back and forth between us to make keeping shadows up easy) hate with someone on the same job. Hope that makes sense

    Re: Random Question Thread

Oh yeah, and please don't think I want to start a discussion on which is "better" XD!

I meant, more to the point, that NIN/DRK rotates certain spells to generate enmity, and I was curious on what a PLD/NIN did to generate enmity. I know they have cure and flash, aside from the 5 minute job abilities, but if you keep shadows up most of the time I can't imagine there being much curing that can be done to generate enmity.

So I guess the actual question I want to ask then, is "do I not realize how much curing actually will be done, or is there something else that they do to generate enmity that I'm not thinking of?" ^^

SAM AF+1 head will give you additional inventory space over nq wyvern helm and sam af head (same str for ws, med bonus, etc.) but if you already use a maat's cap or hq helm then it probably isn't worth it.

legs+1 are useful if you don't have b.haidate or usu legs, or want to shift your store tp around during ws but don't use hachi hands during tp (amir boots+legs+1 is better stats than hachi feet+shura legs) if you already have haste legs though they probably aren't worth getting.

kote+1 are good for sam dex build too, if you wanted to go that way.

otherwise I think it's all pretty much been addressed.

Kinda linked to the question I posted earlier, what would be best weapon progression pre-fortitude axe for WAR, 1h or 2h doesn't matter, starting at 56.

    For R/E stuff I have Fransisca, Lohar, Fort Axe, but no Tungi ; ;

I can't understand how RDM/NINs don't die tanking high level mobs for extended periods of time. Use a relatively easy high level mob, like a God for example, would you use a RDM/NIN for tanking Gods? How would he not die once shadows were down and the recasts weren't up? I'm honestly curious, I've never seen a RDM/NIN tank before.

think of soboro as a very long bladed ridill.

(but no, apparently no multihit weapons of any type can proc in ws, just traits)

if a weapon granted a trait (algol) then it can proc during ws.

Trust me, there's always some curing to be done, even on fights where you wouldn't expect much. It's just a matter of telling your mages to do less and less curing (which is good, because that means they'll generate less enmity and they'll have more MP. The problem is that sometimes they'll complain that they're too bored >.>). If we have to, sometimes we'll do things to create some missing HP to cure (i.e. swap off invisible hp gear, then swap it back on, etc). Also, keep in mind that PLDs will typically be wearing +35~+40 enmity. Also note that the hate from cures wears off pretty slowly, if at all. This is probably the most important factor in PLD/NIN tanking. Also flash generates a fairly decent amount of enmity, and with all of the haste gear we wear, we're casting it pretty often. Our JAs are also there for when we need a quick spike of hate in an emergency.

Unless You're Doing It Wrong (tm), you shouldn't be getting hit during any fight more times than you can count on both hands. Even if you are getting hit, RDM can easily get 14-1500 HP while still maintaining 30-50% damage reduction, meaning you take roughly what a NIN will in reduction gear.

It's certainly more involved than just "voke, kurayami, hojo", since quite often you'll find you have to keep yourself hasted, refreshed, and possibly even basic debuffs on the mob, all while counting shadows and juggling hate between you and a cotank, but the payoff is the insane survivability and hate RDM/NIN can generate.

Think of how a NIN/WAR tanks things, then add 10-20 more minutes for the RDM/NIN to get hate so that a fart from a mage won't cause drama hilarity.

Fast Cast job traits + AF hat + AF2 body make for a pretty sick recast when you add whatever haste gear said rdm feels like wearing... we still have access to dusk, swift/speed belt, also have nashira. Recasts are hardly an issue with all of that. As for holding hate it's kind of a combo btwn PLD and NIN/DRK spells - Sleep/2, Bind, enfeebles, curing self, etc. It does take a while (as Septimus said) to build up hate equivalent to a PLD or NIN, but once it's there it's pretty safe.

Another big bonus with RDM/NIN tank is magic def. bonus and -% dmg taken. It's a tanking choice best used probably for longer fights than your daily Fafnir zerg. Usually see it used JoL, Tiamat, Proto-Ultima.
