    There's not much room up there to kite at the pop location, you'll get adds pretty easily.

    Rdm/anything can solo with ease with good -dmg taken gear and defense food, just takes 30 minutes or so.

    Pick up a Balin's Sword (10k?), and go to Ronfaure.

    Hit bunnies with your Subduer and see how much you hit for, then equip Balin's Sword and see how much you hit for. If dmg is similar, its unlocked. If its significantly lower (D72 style), then its still locked.

    I hope you brought a sleeping bag. For me, if I don't get the Beadeaux key within the first 20 minutes, I'm there all night <_>

    So if you don't get the key within the first 30 mins or so do you leave and come back later or do you stay there for hours on end?
    PS I feel your pain -_- was in SSG for 2.5 hours yesterday before key dropped, 1.75hrs in Kuftal

    It dropped about 20 minutes after I posted. I also got Water 3 and 4 which are now only worth about 15k.

    The MNK AF3 NM is definitely soloable by NIN/RDM. I got it down to about 50% w/ two of the TW Yags linking before reinforcements from my LS showed up. Bringing a Dagger to spam Energy Drain on the WHM Yag helped quite a bit. Hundred Fists just made it miss a lot faster. :D

    lol Chocobo question -.-

    Did SE adjust the color you can get on the chocobos? I remember reading that the default color was yellow unless you gave it different foods.

    All i fed mine with was Sandorian Carrots and 1 or 2 seeds, and ended up with a black choco (the stats are shitty of course, but meh stats).

    I got a red choco by not feeding my choco at all whatsoever.

    Color is assigned to the Chocobo Egg's "genetic code". So it is random.

    Dusk gloves vs. af+1 gloves for drk when acc is not capped, assuming 15% other haste in gear.

    Effects for Dusk Gloves:

    * HP +20
    * Attack +5
    * Haste +3%
    * Decreases Movement Speed

    Effects for Chaos Gauntlets +1:

    * HP +11
    * MP +11
    * Strength +6
    * Dexterity +6
    * Accuracy +3
    * Weapon Bash +10

    Also, what does weapon bash +10 do, I'm assuming like +10 dmg? lol

    Re: Random Question Thread

    When I get home from work, I'll either PM you some math I've done on ACC vs haste, or I may just post it here. It's pretty interesting to look at.

    Edit: I found an email I sent to a warrior friend on the subject. I didn't take into account the acc cap when I did this math, but you could easily take that into account yourself.

    Also, I calculated each bit of haste as if it was just that much haste, not the whole 256 approximations.

    I also assumed the 2 acc = 1% hitrate.

    You can apply this to your question if you know your ACC.

    The formula for ACC is: For each point of ACC, you will gain .5% hit rate. This formula can easily be found on Wiki or BG forums. For example, Amir boots will cause you to gain a 3% increase in hitrate because it has 6 accuracy.

    The formula for haste is pretty simple and well known. Percentages of haste cuts time off of your delay.

    Let's say you have a weapon with a Delay "D". If you were single-wielding, D is simply the base delay on the weapon. If you are Dual wielding, D is the adjusted delay.

    After adding on "H" amount of haste gear, your new delay "n" will be:

    n = D-D*H/100 = D*(1-h/100) = D*(100-h)/100

    For example, if you have a 500 delay weapon and 15% haste, your new delay will be 500-500*15/100 = 425

    This is the delay that will be in effect while fighting.

    The amount of time between attack rounds "W" is:

    W = n/60 = D/60*(1-h/100)

    For example, if you have a 500 delay weapon with 15% haste, you'll swing once every 425/60 = 7.0833333.... seconds.

    If you are attacking once every 7.08333... seconds, then in 30 seconds, you'll attack 30/7.0833333... ~ 4.235 times. In 60 seconds, you'll attack 60/7.083333.... ~ 8.470 times. In general, if you fight for T amount of time, the amount of times you'll swing "s" will be T/W

    s = t/w = 60t/n = 60t*100/[D*(100-h)]

    However, you will not connect 100% of your swings. In fact, melee hit rate is capped at 95% accuracy. Remember, as above, "s" is your amount of swings. Your actual connected hits "c" will always be equal to the amount of times you swing "s" times your accuracy percentage "a", divided by 100.

    c = s*a/100 = 60t*a/[D*(100-h)]

    For example, if you swing 10 times (s=10) with 50% accuracy (a=50), your actual connected hits will be c= s*a/100 = 10*50/100 = 500/100 = 5. This means that 10 swings with 50% accuracy will result in 5 connected hits (as you would logically expect). Note that since Haste appears in the denominator, and accuracy appears in the numerator, adding x% haste will not give the same results as adding x% crit rate. This is why Ohat (+5% hit rate) parses differently than turban (+5%) haste.

    Now that we have all the basics down, let's look at how this can be applied to gear setups. Let's say you have a full gear setup except for one slot. We want to decided what's better for this specific slot. To find this out, we have to note a few important stats: Delay, Haste, and Accuracy. Let's say you have D delay, H haste, and A accuracy when you're completely geared up except for in this specific slot. For example, when comparing feet options, we look at your Delay, the amount of haste you have when you have nothing on your feet at all "h" and the amount of accuracy you have when you have nothing on your feet"h".

    Let's say we have two options for this slot. Let's call these options Alpha and Beta. For example you could have Amir boots be alpha and Dusk feet be Beta (or vice versa) or have Turban be alpha and Optical Hat be beta (or vice versa).

    Let's say option Alpha has x accuracy, and beta has no accuracy. Let's also assume Beta has p haste and alpha has no haste (these equations can be easily adjusted for both options having haste and/or accuracy, but I wont get into the details of that right now). For example, if alpha is amir and beta is dusk, then x = 6 and p = 2. Or you could go the Ohat/turban route and use 10 and 5.

    So with alpha your new accuracy is your base accuracy plus x. The amount of attacks you'll have connect during time period t is

    c_alpha = 60t*(a+x)/[D*(100-h)]

    With Beta, you'll have a accuracy, but H + p haste so in this case:

    c_beta = 60t*a/[D*(100-(h+p))]

    Now we want to see which piece of gear is better for your specific setup, which has a weapon with delay D, H haste, and A accuracy. For a given H, there will be an accuracy a that gives equal results with both pieces of gear (i.e. both pieces parse exactly the same). If you increase accuracy above this range, the haste setup will always win, and if you decrease accuracy, the accuracy setup will always win. Let's call the point where both pieces of gear parse evenly "equilibrium".

    Equilibrium: 60t*(a+x)/[D*(100-h)] = 60t*a/[D*(100-(h+p))]

    Solving for A, we can see equilibrium for a given amount of haste is:

    a = x*[100-(h+p)]/p

    Note that this does not depend on the delay of the weapon at all.

    When accuracy is higher than this amount, the haste option wins, and when acc is lower than this amount, the accuracy option wins.

    Let's compare amir boots and dusk feet. Let's go for a reasonable amount of haste. A WAR with turban + swift belt + dusk hands + haidate has 17% haste. This means equilibrium between dusk feet (2% haste) and amir boots (3% hit rate) is A = 3*[100-(17+2)]/2 = 121.5 accuracy. This means that you would need a whooping 121.5% hit rate for dusk to outparse amir. This is obviously impossible, as hit rate cannot be over 100% logically, and is capped at 95% in this game. Even if you give a march, you'd still need over 100% accuracy for dusk to beat amir.

    Let's solve equilibrium in terms of haste, so that we can find a reasonable accuracy number and adjust haste accordingly.

    Equilibrium: h = 100 - p*(1+a/x)

    Now let's assume capped accuracy (which most people don't reach in most situations anyways). Then the amount of haste you'd need to be wearing (not including foot slot) in order for dusk to win would be 34.6666%. Haste will obviously cap out at 25% from gear, meaning it's impossible to do this without the spell. However, if you are getting a march, you'd only need 24.666...%. Of all the jobs that can use both Amir and Dusk, none of them are capable of getting this much haste in gear. This means that even at 95% accuracy, you'd still need more haste than even possible for dusk to beat Amir. Most melees wont even parse 95%. They'll typically parse up to 90% in exp, meaning you'd actually need 38% haste for dusk to win. The only way you'll be able to have dusk beat amir is when you either have double marches, march + haste spell, or a soul voiced march. Otherwise, Amir is going to win.

    I was in a hurry when I typed the email, so it's likely that I made mistakes somewhere. If so, feel free to criticize my math and point out my mistakes, etc.

    Re: Random Question Thread

    If my math is correct, then with 15% haste before dusk gloves (which is what I'm assuming you meant), you'd need:

    246% ACC in order for the dusk to beat the Gauntlets

    216% ACC in order for the dusk to beat the Gauntlets if you have march

    201% ACC in order for the dusk to beat the Gauntlets if you have haste

    186% ACC in order dusk to beat the Gauntlets if you have 2xmarch

    171% ACC in order for dusk to beat the Gauntlets if you have March + haste

    141% ACC in order for dusk to beat the Gauntlets if you have haste and double march

    Since you obviously can't get that much ACC, then I'd say use the gauntlets unless your ACC is near cap.

    To put it into a different perspective: At 90% acc, you'd need 67% base haste (including gear/spells) in order for the three haste to outdo 9 ACC.

    Like I said earlier, if anyone notices any flaws in my above math, please point it out. I wouldn't be surprised if I did make some mistake somewhere.

    Edit: Actually all the numbers I posted above are the equilibrium points.

    Edit#2: As Amele pointed out on the next page, the equilibrium haste at 90% ACC is actually 37% haste, not 67% haste. My mistake. I used the wrong value for accuracy in my calculation.

    Edit#3: I made the exact same mistake in all of my calculations that Amele pointed out. I used the value x=9 instead of x=4.5 (I forgot to cut it in half). Here's a chart with the actual values (the chart sucks because the University computers suck, and be extension, I suck D, but at least the values are correct.

    Gah, and isn't Asura's economy higher than most as well? =(((

    In case you're wondering why I asked, I went chip farming with the assumption that they sold at 50k each (THANKS PERSON WHO I WILL KEEP NAMELESS)... but that apparently isn't true.

    I don't know if it's "higher", but it's been in pretty bad condition. That adds up to about 120k for a popset, where as sky pop items go for much much more. I'd pay like 10k for one if i had 11 already.

    Who knows you might find a sucker to buy them for 50k. I wouldn't though xD.
