lately it seems like most people who want a joy have it, so he's largely uncontested. let a brd and a nin (or thf works fine) buddy know that you're chilling down there, punking PH, and just tear thru them on blm. little bind, little sleep, couple nukes, got a dead manta in seconds w/ or w/o grav. they're pansies. once you pop chary, let your buddies know, have them trod on down casually, meander in, and drop it easily. w/o competition, there's no rush and it's not bad to get at all, especially when you consider the value of what you're getting. joyeuse is a mean little bastard, and if you're trodding out w/o one, you're really handicapping yourself.Originally Posted by Septimus

Me, Kaylia, and friend trio'd them for about 5 or 6k XP last night, no hides drop, might try more tonight. Low hide supply on AH and I wanna HQ more masks ;xOriginally Posted by Saraphym
My peak Chi on Colibri was 700, on Marsh Muerre was about 650, NIN damage is not that bad. Of course, the GAxe war who just got raging rush is doing 800+ weaponskills, and the COR hit a 1600 peak slug shot, so there is only so much you can do. Your damage doesn't have to be "great", it just has to be high enough that between that and provokes, you stay above the next person.Originally Posted by ringthree
Whichever way you slice it, it is difficult to keep hate on NIN. If you setup in evasion gear, you don't keep hate period, nor do you evade very much unless exping on VT (in which case you can really use DD gear and tank just fine), and if you setup in DD gear it is harder to tank without getting hit but easier generally to keep hate - a rock and a hard place. As you say, chances are that any half-decent DD is going to take hate off you, so I figure that you might as well gear up for damage since your shadows wont have to last that long anyway. Most fights on the Meurre I managed to keep hate right through, but even if I didn't it was actually a boon since I could start voking the next pull.
Right, thats teh excuse I have been hearing for literally years now. You can hit those Chi's if you are DD tanking or not, because you don't use Evasion and Enmity on WS's... the rest of the time you are doing subpar damage and its not helping you keep hate, while you get hit more and lose shadows more with Evasion and Enmity which means you are not keeping hate.Originally Posted by Delekii
I call BS on not keeping hate with Evasion and Enmity gear. Comparatively, it's just not true. Everyone thinks they are better than they are, in my experience with other people tanking those that focused on Evasion and Enmity KEPT HATE, those that tried to DD were basically first vokes. That is even more important in todays game with the 2-hander improvements. A half-decent DD will take hate off of and E/E NIN less often and for shorter times than a DD NIN.
The way I see it, I know I'll never be pimp at endgame, but if I have the money, why not be uber from level 1-60? It makes leveling subjobs much easier when you can have full DD, TP, and Tanking equip. Maybe I'm just one of the few that likes to level lower level jobs.Originally Posted by Spekkio
Also, what's with people complaining about getting 5k/hr at level 40? Getting 3/4 of a level per hour is damn good. You're not 75, of course you're not going to kill with a 75's speed.
What's the least annoying KS30 to get Destroyers from, and suggestions on a setup for it?

see destroyers drop a lot on double drg, its an easy fight provided you have the right setup, they're easy as shit to enfeeble.
Double Dragonian is the way to go, especially if you know some BLMs, fast to burn, and I find while it's rare to strike it rich on Double Dragonian, you often come out with 100-200K from Dragon Heart/Minuet Earring/Ingot/random drops. In today's economy, it probably offers a better average turn out than ODS has for me in a long time.
Woohoo! 1/5 on Destroyers so far on Double Dragonian...I had heard it was supposed to be hard but nobody even died. We're just TP burning it.
It's much like the Temenos Central Floor 1 Dragon. Sometimes they are pushovers, sometimes they rock your world. I know there are proven theories for both of these instances, but it never seems to be routine.Originally Posted by evilpaul

Kind of wondering this, I screwed up long ago on Snow Gorget, it was late and I picked the wrong blue chip, had to get Aqua... it's sitting in storage and I don't wanna toss it for fear of never getting it back incase I NEED it for a WS sometime.
Perhaps that is your experience, but speaking from my own, current experience, I have the best evasion gear possible at the moment (lvl60), as well as emnity, and a GAxe war can take hate from me in seconds in either setup - depends on target more than anything else. On higher level mobs where they don't do quite as much damage I can hold hate easily, but on VT-low IT mobs the damage they do on a hit by hit basis is just so high that they will almost always get hate when they WS, if not beforehand.Originally Posted by ringthree
Don't get me wrong, I _HAVE_ and evasion set and it gets a lot of use (I switch to it whenever shadows are running low and I won't make it to the next cast, or other such situations, but usually when I am ok on shadows I just wear DD to increase damage as much as possible.
Trying to tank on Ninja with a MNK/WAR and DRK/SAM going nuts makes me cry
in fact, the entire makes me cry but it's some sort of masochistic tendency that keeps me going
Its because people are idiots and wont try anything unless someone else does it first. DD is so easy, did it with PLD, WAR, WAR, DRG, WHM, RDM. Its not hard, its only hard if you do what a lot of people suggest and try to kill them at the same time, which is based on the wrong assumption that one becomes stronger after the other dies.Originally Posted by evilpaul
I dont doubt that a WAR can take hate off of you, I am saying it happens less often and for shorter times if you are going E/E instead of DD. Its comparatively better.Originally Posted by Delekii
Think about it not at each individual moment but for the duration of the fight. Losing shadows decreases enmity, getting hit decreases enmity, your TP build damage doesn't make a whole lot of difference. So with a Haub you have basically the same accuracy as SH, a marginal increase in damage and -30 evasion compared to a SH. You are almost always going to lose a shadow on each attack, and you are going to get hit more often because you will be waiting on recasts. And you probably wont have as much enmity.
If you want to increase your damage, go with Dorado Sushi so you hit a lot and have a good WS set-up. There is so little damage difference between an E/E set up and a DD set up during the TP phase at that level to make it almost irrelevant. Even at end-game, the best burn NIN's don't worry about damage per swing, they just worry about TPing fast and strong WS's. But thats a discussion for a different day.
Here is the point, I believe and this is in my experience as a NIN and as a DD that below about 70 you are not going to do enough TP phase damage to increase your hate compared to the amount of hate you lose from always losing shadows and getting hit. WS phase is irrelevant because both a E/E and DD can do the same WS.
Essentially, its a simple formula. If enmity gained from damage done during the TP phase is greater than enmity lost due to shadows lost and damage taken then go DD, if not, then go E/E. I just don't believe a NIN can get to the point of damage done being greater until at least Dual Wield IV (65) and access to better DD gear (in this case haste gear) until 70+.
