He's definitely absorbing the doode's Kurama chakra cloak. Look as his left foot in the last double page panel. And not to forget it's been mentioned from like chapter 4 of the manga that the 9-tails chakra causes wounds to heal much quicker. Not saying you're wrong, because you're explanation is right too. Both in this case it could easily be both.

This much I can like about him. Madara even says something like "it didn't go exactly as planned" and yet he still has that 'fuck it, gonna be a boss anyway' mentality lol

I would love to see Madara pull a Kill Bill eye-rip on Sasuke and put it to use. Was a little bit disappointed too with Madara coming back. For a brief moment I thought it was Orochimaru and how epic it would have been for him to suddenly become the big bad again with a major power-up.

we were watching some of the older episodes (the pain arc, specifically) and the question occurred to me: why the hell didn't one or an alliance of several of the other villages together curbstomp the leaf right off the map? there was a long period of time when the village was relatively helpless. minato bought it, the ninetails was sealed in an infant/child/teenager, orochimaru was off being a pedo, jiraiya was off whoring and writing, and tsunade was off binge drinking and playing slots. sure they had the 3rd hokage, but he was pretty long in the tooth even then, and they had danzo and the ANBU SOCOM team but he was busy playing shadow games with the uchiha (before he had them all offed, sith-jedi grudge-match style). they really didn't seem to have much going for them other than recovery efforts and training a new generation of ruthless little killers. there wasn't a lot of love lost between the other villages and the leaf.

i'm hardly a naruto scholar, so it's likely i'm just not remembering something properly.

The simple answer would probably be that it was after the war and all the villages were fucked up pretty badly, not just the Leaf. Not to mention they were all already trying to kill each other, why make an alliance right off the bat when one group could easy stab the other in the back.

I don't think other villages could have perceived how vulnerable Konoha was.

No one could have known where the Kyuubi had been sealed. Hosts are top secret information; Konoha's villagers knew because of the circumstances through which the Kyuubi was sealed in Naruto, but they had also been led to believe that the Kyuubi was a random calamity. So it was probably not well known that Kushina had been the host previously. Practically no one knew of the inner political strife going on with the Uchiha. Everyone completely bought that Itachi went off the deep end. It was probably only the Sandaime, his two advisers, and Danzo/Root that knew the Uchiha were an internal threat.

No village seems to have had many power-house ninjas besides their Kages and their hosts. So even with the Sannin off doing who knows what, is there any village that could guarantee wiping out the Leaf just because the 4th was dead? The Leaf repelled Orochimaru and Sand easily when Naruto's generations were still brats. And who says Jiraiya and Tsunade couldn't intervene (Jiraiya did show up during Orochimaru's attack), or retaliate? Too many variables without a lot to gain.

The one act of aggression we know happening was when some village sealed a beast in Rin to try unleash it in Konoha. That's not an open war investment.

Yeah that too. Until the Sharingan got a new limit break every time Sasuke took too much damage, yes the Byakugan was also a major asset for the Leaf. Remember when other villages went through a hassle to try steal them and the slave house had to have their eyes destroyed by seal upon death just to protect them?

I thought it was the other way around. But regardless, the Byakugan is a very pointless and much forgotten power at this point in the story. Was seriously badass in the first half though, Naruto vs Neji, and then Neji vs that spider sound 4 doode. But seriously, talk about kicked to the curb and forgotten in the second half
