can't believe i waited a week for this anticlimactic moment...unless it's setting up orochimaru to take over itachi's body, that's probably the only redeeming quality about this week's episode.

I didn't even think of that...that'd be kinda crazy since it would actually make it so Orochimaru completes his long time goal.

I think if Orochimaru were to take over Itachi's body, he'd end up being disappointed. To me it looks like Itachi's eyes are going blind/now blind with how they were drawn. Then again, it could have been because he was getting ready to pass out, but... who knows. Itachi has been very close to being blind since Konoha even, and using three Mangekyou techniques pretty much consecutively would probably increase the effects rapidly.

True, but keep in mind that if Orochimaru took Itachi's body, Sasuke is right there, all out of chakra, pissing his pants. It wouldn't be any kind of great feat to gank his eyes at that point.

this fuckin show has started a really bad habit of flashbacks to things that happened like, 5 minutes ago in the same episode. fucking sick of the anime.

"Started"? They've been doing that the whole time the show was on the air. Remember the first fight against Zabuza circa episode 7? They showed the whole clones -> shuriken -> zomgcloneshuriken sequence like 3 times in one episode.

been a while since i watched the older episodes, guess i'm just now noticing the trend. i just never remember it being this noticeable. probably the slower pacing in shippuden is why i'm picking up on it more.

i don't know, perhaps he's asking forgiveness for killing almost the entire clan and destroying the normal life, the lovely family to which sasuke was entitled.

what baffled me was that what made him change his mind, as the minute before he was about to salvage sasuke's eyes. what's with the abrupt change of mind when he had sasuke trapped?

Imagine it's possible he knew that even if he did yank out Sasuke's eyes, he was gonna pass out and didn't really have the means to get anywhere and get them implanted. At that point, even if he beat Sasuke, it wasn't much of a victory since the eyes would likely go bad due to no preservation methods being available.

Then again, I suppose Zetsu could've taken him back, but was he aware he was there? I'm leaning more toward an attempt at redemption, and with Sasuke finally achieving his goal, one has to wonder if not only will he kill Itachi, but what will his new life's purpose be? That could pretty much be "the year of Sasuke" as we figure that out. He could return to Konoha. He could remain a defect. He could hunt Akatasuki on his own. He could try to take out Kabuto knowing he may have Orochimaru within him. He might just wanna fight Naruto just because, too.

It seems rather anti climactic to assemble a team so that he can safely fight his brother for us to never see the team in action. So either Itachi somehow remains his target in the future or Sasuke finds someone else to hunt with his team.

Itachi did have a means of preserving the eyes. Remember that bottle with the solution inside that slipped out of his sleeve during the genjutsu? He probably still has that on him.

Also, if Sasuke did end up killing Itachi, his next goal no doubt would be Madara since it was Itachi & Madara together who slaugthered the clan.

The poke or flick on the forehead was the first thing I noticed, I don't know how you guys missed that lol. It's been flashed back so many times it makes my eyes hurt. Itachi's eyes are looking like they are almost blind, it's pretty interesting if you ask me. His eyes have always been black, it's pretty significant and they are showing it over and over again on purpose. Even without the mangekoyu, i'm sure its possible to still take itachi's eyes, just unlikely. What would be REALLY funny is if orochimaru respawned and was like "thank you for making this so easy" and sasuke picks up itachi's body and runs away lol.
