I just wish there was one more chapter of pure fighting where Itachi had the upperhand before they got into the big draining attacks. It seems almost like a lazy excuse to make something less dramatic/climactic to say "He only has attacks that make him tired". Like he was never a big threat in the first place.

His non-draining attacks were the ones Sasuke would be most prepared for, since Orochimaru if not seen them while fighting Itachi would have heard or seen him use them on other people. Once Sasuke showed that he's skilled and prepared Itachi would only be getting into trouble by throwing attacks Sasuke has a high chance of knowing and being able to counter quickly. And they did skirmish and mess around long enough for Itachi to realize Sasuke was serious this time.

You mean that Itachi is overall more powerful and presently could defeat much stronger foes? Yes, I think almost everyone would agree. This fight was heavily in Sasuke's favor because there's no chance Itachi was as committed to training for that particular fight as Sasuke, nor as well prepared.

The fact that Sasuke had been training for that long just for this, coupled with Itachi's abilities being incredibly draining (and I know he has other techniques, we've seen them... but would they really be effective against Sasuke at all?) and hugely underestimating his little brother definitely put Sasuke at the advantage.

I still don't understand how Sasuke had Amaterasu, but whatever.

Sasuke doesn't have Amaterasu, he just used the heat from it to create a weather condition in order to use Kirin. Or something like that.

He wanted Itachi to use Amaterasu so it would help heat up the sky, and he could also use 50% of his Charka for that clone technique, and then another 50% aimed up into the sky with the Katon Grand Dragon Fireball Technique to build up wind and heat, to create thunderstorms, which he used his Electric Charka in him to redirect it to make kirin.

Then what did he use to cancel out Itachi's Amaterasu? The thing doesn't stop until it's burned everything. I was under the impression Sasuke used Amaterasu so they would just burn each other, and then used the purposely missed dragon fireball or whatever to heat up the sky.

That picture and the following pages lead me to believe he used Amaterasu, but maybe I'm wrong. It's hard for me to understand fights sometimes in manga, which is why I prefer watching them in the anime.

i was under the impression from those panels (specifically where it shows sasuke's face, then itachi's eye, then itachi closing his eye) that itachi cancelled the jutsu himself by closing his eye.

From what I've read, Sasuke takes the hit but uses Orochi's replacement technique. Itachi stopped Amaterasu to preserve the eyes without knowing that Sasuke was using Orochi's jutsu.

yea because he didn't want to destory sasuke's eyes that he eventually want to use to replace his own.

i can't fucking stand n2's slow pace, but 51/52 was decent anyway
i wanted a cooler scene usng that sasuke meeting, but aoe chidori was decent so ehh

I dunno Zetsu's words seem kind of cryptic, but I hope he's dead just so they'll move on from that storyline. They seemed to focus a lot on the blood that Itachi coughed up, on his fingers and on Sasuke's face.

I'm glad to see Shino in action as well, too bad he'll probably get countered badly.

Edit: Last nights episode was ok. It would have been nice to have that arc over already that way they move on to the next one with Hidan and Kukazu.
