    Yeah, the Sage's mother had Byakugan, but while it seemed more powerful than the Hyuga version, it sounds like it had limits compared to the two versions or Rinnegan (with tomoe and without).

    I got the impression that when she gained that third eye (Rinnegan w/tomoe) she got on some other shit, and what her sons gained (Rinnegan without), was more of a half-step down.

    Which makes me wonder, I remember way back when that the Byakugan originates from the Sharingan, or was that only an assumption by the fanbase?

    Either way, I still want to know what happened to the Sage's brother. What did he inherit from his mother if the Sage got the eyes and the body? Or did they both inherit the same thing? I want answers, damn it!

    Other way around. Sharingan came later.
