Pretty sure this is a setup for Kaguya to take all chakra in the world back as she dies, effectively bringing things full circle and leaving the anime without the primary source of conflict in the world.

She's the Necron of this story. Madara was basically stuck in a Frieza-cycle of 'this isn't even my final form' so Kishi throws us for a loop by saying aha, Madara was just a pawn for this prime evil chick who actually wanted to bring about peace by force just like Madara! Cycles bitches! Also Madara was looking pretty effeminate once his hair changed colors, might as well go for the gender swap.

Kishi can probably get some more chapters out of this chick rather than us just cutting to Narusauce v. Madara. If we're lucky we'll get flashbacks and Madara will get power of loved from inside her leading to all chakra vanishing in the Narutoverse and an epilogue of those Sharingan tanks we were promised.

Its probably a genjutsu tbh. Also, I feel like this is the Yu Yevon of Naruto. Go through the whole story with one character built up behind the scenes, only for the "real" final boss to appear out of nowhere.

Yu Yevon has nothing on Necron (which was mentioned earlier)
You could at least rationalize Yu Yevon and it sort of made sense as it was happening.
And to make the comparison even better, Madara would be Garland. Total protagonist shift twice, one coming way more out of nowhere than the last.

I would think Garland would be more akin to Obito, Kuja is Madara and Trance Kuja is Madara after absorbing the bijuu's and the tree. But regardless, chapter was all sorts of WTF.

Edit, but that doesn't make sense, considering Kuja was created by Garland, making him more like a white Zetsu =/. ie; FF9 =/= Naruto
