It's not out of the realm of possibility. It's a common Japanese custom to save the umbilical cord upon birth and place it in a keepsake box, to either gift it back to the child when he/she gets older or to another family member/friend depending. Based on this Suigetsu probably just remembered the thing upon Sarada's birth and assumed it was Karin's DNA. Meaning that Sakura and Karin likely swapped umbilical cord for glasses as presents.

However it will be epic if Sasuke is indeed a playa and Sakura Queen Cuck.
