I was thinking, what if it was something to see the true intent of Sasuke? Don't know why I thought of this really but he said I hope you won't have to use it and didn't he go on a big speel about how Naruto should save Konoha and sometimes ninjas have to make hard decisions? Wouldn't it make sense for Itachi not wanting him to have to use it and Naruto finally grow up and see what has to be done without Itachi's help?

I thought it was something to do with maybe being able to reject or stop the Uchiha's ability to control the Kyuubi. That's what I expect from it, anyway.

I took it to be that it will protect the Nine Tail's chakra from Sasuke being able to simply defuse it like he did before. It would make sense then for Itachi to say he hoped he didn't have to use it, like the above poster mentioned. Hopefully it's not something cheesy like his own Sharingan lol. We'll get OP Naruto shit once that key finally gets the fuck back to Konoha.

I'm guessing it's from that time Naruto, Grandma Chiyo, Kakashi, Sakura etc ran into Itachi and he used his finger to trigger that genjutsu.

Itachi mentions that sasuke is still pure and able to be manipulated in this chapter, so it's very very possible that madara twisted the story, lied straight out, or left out some really important stuff.

Sasuke having good intentions would basically break shonen laws. Naruto has got a power up, Sasuke got a power up. They are going to fight, and Itachi eaten bird will probably save the day and they'll be like 'thanks itachi, you were a true patriot.'
