I think he killed the frog to prevent him from calling naruto back from his training. He probably has something to do with the planned attack on konoah.

I am under the impression that those chakra receivers are what allow all 6 bodies of pain to share the same enormous pool of energy, rather than being a control device. But at this point, your guess is as good as mine.

Danzo is one of the most useless characters to me so far in the Naruto universe. No substance at all, just there simply to serve as an antagonistic purpose within the village. He could die the next chapter for all we care, all it would do is provide filler until Naruto returns.

No substance? If anything, he lacks flash. He is one of the few "political" enemies of Naruto. Naruto shines most when it is focused on internal and external politics of villages. It gives the setting some flesh to chew on. I think without characters like Danzo the manga becomes even more shallow. Think of the alternative, Rival turned Super villain and "MY EYES ARE DEEEEAD" will just decided through punchfest after punchfest. Sounds more like filler to me.
