The complete lack of responses about this week's anime definitely make sense, just watched it and the episode was more of setting up next week's. Oh well, I hope it is good. >.>

My only comment about the anime right now is that I don't like how Shikamaru isn't smoking. I thought that Asuma's death in the manga was made a lot more touching by Shikamaru picking up the cig and starting to smoke...not just carrying his zippo and flicking it idly.

Changing the story to promote a blatant anti-smoking message is stupid imo.

How are they going to do the scene where Shika drops whats his name in the pit? (I'm terrible with names ><) Flicking a cigarette at the exploding tag was a great scene, I'll be pretty upset if they change it because of Shika not smoking.

When Kakashi last used MS against Deidara, he also used it like 4 different times in a row. I'm sure he could pump it out at least once.

And you're right, didn't remember how many times he used MS, just remembered him having to piggy-back with Gai because of how much it drained him.

Well he shot it at Deidara a couple times...then ported his fucking arm away...and then the entire bomb/fire coming at them. And the whole time he was chasing Deidara down that cliff thing, avoiding attacks with jutsus and such. MS is very draining, but he can go for a bit before needing to recover...it's just that when he needs to recover, he REALLY needs to recover, lol.

I think Gai and hokage's healing slug are the two most likely scenarios for kakeshi to come out of this alive.

I have serious doubts they'll kill Kakashi however it is very possible he'll lose his sharingan :/

I don't think he took up smoking, just smoked one last one for Asuma, which they showed shortly after the fight. Nevermind the connotation of suggesting a teenager should be smoking in a show ultimately targeted toward the demographic.

He's shown smoking several times after asuma's death in he manga, not only at the moment he died. He's shown smoking in quite a few places actually (328 p 17; 330 p 11, 15, 16; ch 331; off the top of my head, I'm sure theres more)

If they really want to, teens are going to smoke no matter what their parents, tv characters or cartoon camels say about it. Changing the story to a less impacting one isn't going to deter them. Not to mention the fact that people who watch the show are likely to eventually read the manga and get the "message" anyways.

(according to Wiki, the legal age of smoking in Japan is 20, with no enforcement. Yes, its wiki so I take with a grain of salt, but if theres no enforcement the whole argument against smoking is moot.)

The only thing I can think of would be his Mangekyou's spacial distortion thing that he used on Deidara.

That last panel to me doesn't look like blood at all, the splatter. I'd assume a nail through the head coupled with manga artists' exaggeration, it would look a little more like blood. Looks like wood chips or something; the only thing that looks like it could be blood is on his chin because it's dripping.

About this week's anime, does someone know which Studio animated/drew it? I'm pretty sure it's not the usual one (Toei isn't it?) but I'm leaning towards Gibli or maybe Gainax...mainly because I don't know any other studios.

Hmm, I wonder where he actually loses it (though most likely the building falling on him has something to do with it). In all of the 'zoomed out' frames, it appears he has a headband on, but in the close ups its off. Anyways, that pretty much kills the easiest/cheesiest way out of that situation

And dead on about the smoking, hence why I don't understand why they changed it in the show.

Shikimaru showing up to fight this pein body would be cool... I mean, He can catch the nail in a shadow, and the fight would be gravity against shadows, could be kinda interesting if he can negate the gravity effect on his body by grounding himself via a shadow.

That's exactly what I was thinking at the end of the chapter lmao. Although maybe not catching it with his teeth, something incredible that shows his face or some shit to play up the dramatic effect.
