I think Kishi finally realized he has way too many fucking characters, so he's letting some heads roll. Not like Hinata was going to do anything for the rest of the manga anyway.

and I'd say Pein has some kinda of trick up his sleeve for the Kyuubi, or he wouldnt have even tried looking for Naruto. Though I'd say he was more surprised by the fact Naruto has done what he's done so far with only relying on his own power.

im hoping but it might just be long shot dream. Tsunade sacrifices herself by depleting all of her chakra into the slugs so it revives all the ppl who have died in the attack

my geuss would be pein came prepared to fight the kyuubi early on before losing too many of his body's... i can't wait to see some 6-tail rapage on that pein body in front of naruto lol
