Well, Naruto's current strategy involves mass clones getting thrown in every which way and attacking in every which way, rocks getting thrown and rasen-shuriken usage. Kind of a big radius on his attack, it'd hurt to have to avoid a teammate with the way he's currently fighting.

I think the underlying message here is how powerful Naruto has become.

It's basically saying that any ninja from Konoha who comes to his "aid" is so insignificant to the fight that they add more hindrance than help, including Tsunade who is the hokage. At this point he's on a completely different level than anyone from Kono. I interpreted this as Naruto really has come into his own from the kid who used to just use mass shadow clone > Rasengan to win fights.

The ironic this is this is how he eventually ends up beating Pain lol.

They keep bashing this into our heads as well. Like 5 people have said "LETS GO HELP!" then, "No, you will get in the way of him." Then the flashbacks of Kakashi saying only you can surpass the 4th, the author saying how Minato was one of the strongest people in the manga... Naruto is obviously one of the strongest ninja in the ninja world.

Another reason to stay out of the fight is the danger of him going ninetails.
