I think Danzou being Madra's little brother fits perfectly. Only plothole with this is if he was, then he'd be really strong and Orochimaru shouldn't have been able to cause so much destruction to Konoha a few years back. He shoulda been able to fight Orochimaru much better then the Third Hokage did. But I doubt the author would have putten -that- much thought into trying to keep things perfectly consistant.

Actually you can say Danzou LET Orochimaru get away with it because it works into his plan to become the Hokage himself.

Madara and Danzo are two halves of the same person. They'll do the fusion dance and become the series' final enemy.

Danzo being Madara's brother is an interesting theory. The only thing going against it though, is that they showed Madara's brother as having both eyes missing in his flashbacks. So I don't think it's likely, but you never know.

Severely doubt that Madara = Danzo though. As was stated, the scene shifted almost immediately from Madara to Danzo. Would be a bit of a stretch for him to be at the statue with Akatsuki and in Konoha as Danzo at the same time.

Though it is interesting that we've only seen Madara use one eye...

Well, Madara does have that crazy teleportation thing he was pulling when he was playing around with Naruto and co. during the Itachi vs Sasuke match

I'm not sure if I think madara = danzou myself but that teleport jutsu stuff might make it possible for him to be moving around between places so fast

also when he says he has another matter to attend to

It could be one of three things.

The Raikage demanded a summit of the five Kages, and Kisame referred to Madara as the Mizukage. If Madara still indeed holds the title of Mizukage, he may be going to attend that summit.

Or, he could be going to track down Sasuke and confront him about the Killer Bee fake-out. I still suspect that Sasuke planned that(or knew all along that it was a trick, at least), and if so, Madara would likely be pissed.

Or, he could simply be going to retrieve a new patsy for the Gedo Mazo summon.

At least to me, this would seem the most plausible and likely reason for Madara's statement.

Wasn't a flashback I don't think, was just a story that Madara fabricated to get Sasuke on his side.

I'm pretty sure we've seen Madara with both eyes when the mask was off. But maybe one of his eyes is blind from mangekyou overuse, while the other is his brothers. Which fits in with Danzou missing an eye, and why Tobi's mask just has a hole for one eye.

I think the whole Danzo/Madara being the same thing is a bit of a red herring. I think Kishi wants us to think this so we will be surprised. What exactly do we know about Danzo's past?

Still think he's somehow connected to Madara. Maybe just had his other eye covered to hide the fact that it's a Sharingan. Madara might be able to see through the cloth or something so he knows wtf is going on in Konoha, or see w/e Danzou can see.

I'm curious about what kind of power Danzou has... he was obviously in some way inferior to Hanzou, seeing as he had to get his help (as we saw in Pein's flashback)... and eventually Pein killed Hanzou, and then Naruto at least "beat" Pein, though not outright killing him with his own hands.

Danzou on Sannin-tier maybe? I kinda think he would have to be in order to challenge like he has. But we've only seen a grizzly looking crippled guy, no fights out of him (other than stabbing a frog).

I just finished watching the ending to the filler in the anime, and to be perfectly honest, it actually wasn't too bad. Filler is horrible and all, but if they really have to do it, I'm glad they are at least trying to somewhat link it to the story.

But I am really happy they are getting back to the real story next week, can't wait to see upcoming events animated.

following the brother theory, maybe Madara took Danzo's right eye and Danzo took Madara's left eye so they both have the "Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan". Also from the naruto wiki on Izuna (Madara's brother) "As the younger brother of Madara Uchiha, the strongest of the clan, Izuna himself was said to have been equal to his brother in every way. Both of them have exceptionally high levels of chakra, even for Uchiha members. " I would do some searching of the manga for more info but I have class work I need to stop procrastinating on. Though leave some images.

So are we going to have Naruto and Sasuke vs Danzou now? Kind of doubtful.

Or is Naruto going to tell what he knows about Danzou's plot with Hanzou to become Hokage and that it was really Danzou who caused Konoha to be destroyed in a way? Makes more sense.

It will probably just be Sasuke vs the Elders while Naruto is resting or out trying to find the remaining members, Madara, Zetsu, and Kisame.
