Eh, it's not like people didn't bitch about its airings on Cartoon Network, either.

I'd say the violence level is probably comparable to Gargoyles. Maybe a bit more blood, but it's not like that shit hasn't been edited out or mudified in past anime translations. Then again, I think some forget the target audience of the series isn't exactly college+ aged dudes.

From the marketing standpoint, I'd say Disney made a good move. I'd love to see anime become more than just a niche market here in the states. Or more pointedly, stateside produced animation graduating beyond Flash and maybe shooting for people over 14 without focusing on fart jokes, drug references, or cartoonish violence. In the hands of this country's animation giant, it may have that potential. Or they could run it into the ground. I'm sure many will lean toward the latter, but fuck if I hate the "cartoons are for kids!" stigma.

They're going to butcher the series. Key demographic is going to be 6 to 14. I don't watch the anime anyway, but that's borderline rape right there.

Japanese kids can take a little etchi and violence. While, I have to admit, Japanese prime TV does lack as much gore compared to American prime time, American cartoons have very little violence. Any animated shows with mature themes are always seen as a subject for the FCC. Considering that Naruto delves into a lot of plot lines dealing with paganism, juggly Tsunade boobies, blood, mass killings, etc, I don't see how Disney will be able to sell this to American Moms.

And this seems like a beginning of what's to come for Disney. They just bought Marvel, so I guess they can squeeze Naruto... what's next? Bleach? One Piece? If Disney was smart, they should just go ahead and buy KyoAni and Shaft and be done with it Market it under their Miramax division to hide the rated PG-13 / R stuff....

Also, won't this kill off Crunchyroll's deal?

I find it really hard to believe that Shippuuden's target demographic is still a younger audience. Actually, I find it really hard Naruto is intended for younger children at all, but American censorship can make it seem that way. I'd have sooner expected Shippuuden on Adult Swim (is that still even around? haven't watch CN in a loooooong time) than I would've Disney.

Just hanging around my 10 year old nephew is enough to convince me Shippuuden is watchable at that age and even younger. He's a vulgar little shit and I'm reminded of terms like prostitots describing little girls dressing like hoochie mamas to imitate female role models in music and such. They may not comprehend everything on the same level people here might, but it's not like anime invented "good vs. evil" type storytelling.

Anyway, Adult Swim is still around, but far as I know, they've regulated anime to saturday nights only claiming it gets crappy ratings. Long ago they showed it during the week, but I could also understand people not caring to watch when you begin cycling through the same small handful of shows over and over and over again. I can't stand watching their comedy, though, and the only tolerable show they have that I like would be Boondocks, but that's not something Williams Street directly produces like their Tim and Eric garbage.

But yeah, I kinda fall back to my dislike of people who equate anime to kiddy cartoons, or that it's all pokemon. Japan's been bold enough to cover a wider range of subjects that could probably give live-action TV a run for its money. I think back to shows like Friends and how the actors were getting like 1 mil an episode and ask myself how many decently animated episodes that could've produced. On top of that, studios wouldn't be looking so much at paying for a certain face, stunt men, pyro, building sets, paying for catering, arranging scene shoots in public areas, and so on. I used to be an art student, but got out of the field because what I wanted to do with it just didn't have the market consideration here. Maybe that'll change. I wouldn't expect it to be instant, but maybe 20 years from now we could have a Law And Order: The Animated Series taking up a primetime slot on NBC.

He didn't put the flames out, he split the ground the flames were burning on in two and pulled them apart so Kakashi and co. could run through the middle unharmed.

Also, am I the only one who wants to see Raikage get owned in the face asap? He's an annoying muscle man with a crappy temper who can't even handle talking to other countries representatives without breaking the damn table. Killerbee at least had style.

No Sasuke is a bitch he needs to get his ass destroyed. I guess it'd be ok if he fought the other kages but honestly the whole fact that Sasuke could take out a kage (likely one of the strongest kages in combat) just with sharigan is fucking retarded. He needs some new tricks already. Naruto couldn't rely on the 9 tails forever because "Rawr, I'm angry" giant berserker strength got old. Sasuke's emo eye no jutsu is getting old real fast.
