No. Uchiha Madara is a much older Uchiha.. pretty much the first, superamigad powerful one. I believe it's his statue across from the First's statue at the waterful where Naruto and Sasuke fought the epic fight. I could be mistaken.

The "leader" that we've all been led to assume is the leader so far is apparently not the leader. The person up 'til now that we all thought was Akatsuki Leader is Pain (or Pein?), not an Uchiha.

BRP is kind of right, Pein(Pain), was the acting leader, while Tobi was in the shadows.

Think of it this way, Pein was taking orders from someone we didn't know of (we didn't either we assumed he was the leader). Tobi comes into the picture, Zetsu introduces him to Deidara (Tobi acted very goofey from the start, this was probably a front to throw the members off).

Now remember when Deidara and Tobi fought the Three Tails? Tobi ran around and Deidara used his clay to kill it off? Tobi bragged how he was the one to take it down. How about with Sasuke? Didn't Sasuke cut right through Tobi? Sharingan was used, but I'll put money on it he's lost his full power, since he hasn't really fought, or maybe he has and Deidara didn't notice when they fought the three tailed. Maybe, just maybe it is Madara Uchiha, brought back with a Resuscitation Spell. Maybe it was Orochimaru who brought him back (he does have the power to bring the dead back to life), and when Orochumaru saw how powerful Madaras Sharingan was he went after Itachi (thinking it would be a easier fight).

I'm pretty sure Tobi/Madara was throwing off the members because he has lost some of his powers, he probably just got back his Sharingan, hence why he showed it to Pein and the girl member.

What if Tobi used the Kage Bunshin no Jutsu technique? Chakra is evenly distributed to each clone, so if Tobi/Madara Uchiha used it, and died when Deidara used the C4, his clone would poof (disappear), lets also not forget about Pein's technique of making the clones. I have a feeling Itachi and Kisame are going to leave Akatsuki, or maybe Itachi is under Madara's control (if it is even Madara), maybe it was Madara (or whoever it is) who made Itachi kill everyone to gain that power...

That's probably true..."My power Uchiha Madara's power. The Sharingan's true power...." So he is kind of saying he gained that power or something, and I strongly believe that Itachi and Kisame (the dead members too), are out of the circle what Tobi is currently doing.

Right, but Pain/Pein never wore a mask. So I can only guess BRP was referencing Tobi. Also, pictures of the shadowy(?) Pain back when he was the assumed leader showed the same eyes he has now exposed, not a Sharingan or normal eyes.

Aaaaaand, my theory about why Deidara was so important is that he trained himself to counter/see through/etc. the Sharingan (still not clear on how, though). I'd say that'd be pretty important when they know Sasuke is coming for Itachi, or even against Kakashi. He was also capable of taking out villages with one bomb if he wanted with those huge bombs he tried on the Sand Village, so maybe if Akatsuki felt like leveling an entire village, I'd see Deidara as a valuable asset. That's not to say the others can't, I mean who knows what the female Akatsuki and Pain/Pein can do (maybe huge ass waves or something, since he's Rain ninja?), and I have no doubt in my mind Itachi and Kisame could kill an entire village but it'd take more effort than just throwing a bomb on the city. Who knows about Zetsu, though... he's pretty much just a hunter-ninja it seems, since all we've seen him do is scout and get rid of evidence by eating bodies.

well it doesn't directly say it, it's not a specialized genjutsu clan like that little girl was in the filler arc, or are they exclusively genjutsu user(s) like kurenai.
