lol, Kiba's just one of my favorites based on aesthetics and the fact their family rides around on giant puppies that pee on people and look awesome/hilarious doing so. They make it look way better than Okami, though given some of the similarities Sasuke's next mega super eyeball no jutsu may very well be "water element: golden shower". Maybe a filler arc.

^ setting off the keepin' it realdar. Shikamaru was honestly tied with Jiraiya for my very favorite up until Ero's last appearance. That still makes me sad lol.

I thought Shikkamaru was still a Chuunin? At the beginning of Shippuden Temari's telling him to stop slacking off and become a Jounin already.

Also, as for those saying Bee's going to die, I dunno. He's spent enough time around Naruto that the power of friendship might save him, or something.

I'm pretty sure they like forced him to become a Jounin or something along those lines. If he still is a Chounin it's only his choice though and everyone sees him as Jounin anyways.

No man, he's still Chunin. Btw, Jonin kids doesn't mean jack squat... Shikamaru's dad is a true Jonin, he seems to have way more stamina than his son, go watch the first Konoha Invasion when Orochimaru attacked Leaf, you'll see him in combat, seemed a lot more skilled and more stamina. They can't lead their own squad of Genin until they're older. Look at Kakashi, and Neji. Kakashi was a Jonin at a really young age and he still had team leader Minato. He was only a leader when he split up into a smaller group. Neji is in the same boat.

Jonin don't mean squat unless they become older. Naruto should be Jonin, idk how he won't get that promotion after what he's accomplished/about to accomplish soon. Naruto has taught Konohamaru Rasengan and Shadow Clone jutsu, he definitely knows how to school Genins...Sage Mode + Jinchuriki Transformations and being a powerhouse even w/o using both because of his 999 shadow clones = Jonin++++++ in my opinoin.

Sannin isn't even an official rank iirc (not sure if you're saying it is anyway, just trying to remember myself), it's just whatever the guy that fought Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade ended up calling them. Naruto will probably always be a Genin anyway, just because it means to little now. When is the last time the manga even made any mention of official ninja ranks lol? Gotta be a long ass time.

Naruto was able to defeat all the Pain bodies, Jiraiya wasn't. Although one could argue small things like Naruto has tips/help/weakened opponent, the fact remains that he beat someone Jiraiya couldn't. This puts him at or above the Sage level, that is a 'level' in regards to strength because we know regular Jounin are not considered even close to the Sannin in strength.

Just because it wasn't in the first episode when they explained ninja ranks to us, like we were retards, doesn't mean it isn't valid to say:

Sannin was just a name the old mizukage gave to them; "The 3 sannin". Tsunade is the only sannin left. There is no "Sannin" rank. Likewise there is no "sage" rank, and sage has nothing to do with sannin. Jiraiya was a sage because he could use natural energy, thus Naruto is also a sage; but it's not a rank.

How did people miss this? Sage mode =/= Sannin and there is no rank... The next step after Jounin is Kage.

The reason Naruto is still a Genin is obvious he's been too busy training and being moved around by Jaraiya to do the exams. As it was said before Chuunin has nothing to do with being strong. This is why even though Shikamaru lost he was promoted because he showed his tactical thinking and other traits needed to protect his team during the first Chuunin exam.

As a note though I can't remember if Shikamaru was actually promoted to Jounin. It may be that you have to reach a certain level of strength and aptitude as well as having the demonstrated leadership qualities. This is probably why certain people like Iruka will always be just a Chuunin.

Also Chuunins do lead teams but they can also be parts of teams. Again Shikamaru is an example of this. He lead the group to capture the Sauce. Long after he was also part of Azuma's and Kakashi's team to pursue and wipe out Akatsuki members. Most likely everyone of the original Naruto group outside of Naruto and Sakura (because of being students of the Sannins and I'm pretty sure she was still promoted to Chuunin) have lead a team of Genins for low level missions but really there's only so many times you need to show cat catching or other menial tasks.

I've always thought that Naruto's genin...-ness would be something they bring up if/when he becomes Hokage. Having him pass the Chunin test would be reeeeally awkward and pointless storyline-wise, and he's obviously above the level of the average Jounin too.

I guess I'm just expecting an ending of:

"Oh em gee congrats Naruto on becoming Hokage!"
"He's done so much for the village, and he was only a genin!"

It's kind of a shame the village didn't give Jiraiya special authority to formally promote Naruto in the time he was away. I think that it might have been appropriate, given his own rank and renown within the village.

I always thought the reason Naruto never got promoted was to show that the ranking system is bullshit to all the notable characters.

If anything it exists as a loose guideline for unremarkable people within the society and doesn't really matter to any of the characters we get to see.

Naruto is pretty much a shoo-in for the position of Hokage anyway. Has anyone actually pulled rank? Does anyone dare pull rank? lol

Kakashi is pretty much the only badass normal jounin that can stand up against the kage-level opponents without getting instantly owned and much of that is because of his experience and access to a Sharingan.

Sharingan, Rinnegan or a Tailed Beast and silly ranks don't mean shit.

iirc every Ninja kid (the 9 original) are all Chuunin exept Neji (jouunin) and Naruto (Genin)
