Edit: Beat by an hour! Shouldn't leave pages open and afk.
I don't see why people think that different = lower quality. It's just a different style of artwork and directing. That doesn't make it any "worse".
Also, I don't see why people are comparing it to the Naruto vs Sasuke fight. I just rewatched it and it was nothing even remotely close to this, unless you guys are talking about a different one than the one I watched (the one at the waterfall).
Y'all are buggin', the animation on that episode was great. That face part was a little weird, and the fuckin' Pain sonic legs when he started running on water.. but the rest was fine.
BACK IN MY DAY ALL ANIME WAS HAND DRAWN. Fuckin' kids.
animation alone gave me chill bumps. what's with all these fag carebears?
edit: after going over page 365 im almost certain all of you faggots are young and have no idea what you're talking about.
well it certainly looks painful
baby fuck baby fuck baby fuck its awwwwwwwwwwright
I just watched the episode and I think the animation was great. They seemed to add some things that I don't remember from the manga, but in the end it seemed to work.
I'm not sure what the comments earlier talking about seeing similar animation in childhood shows was about. Naruto isn't aimed at the more discerning adult demographic, although many enjoy the series.
This week's episode brought to you by Studio Ghibli. :D
A couple parts were weird, yeah, but the quality was outstanding.
People are just poking fun at certain scenes that without a doubt are retarded regardless on how you feel i.e. Sonic Pain, Hammer Nail Pain, and the very lulz worthy My Pain is Greater the Yours! Other then that I agree, the episode was animated very nicely. I'm a little biased though, to me the standard for epic battles in anime was set by this episode in Bleach.

Is it wrong for me to expect all epic battles in anime to look this good?
I think it has to do with the lack of animated consistency so far. One episode really good and another that begins with wth moments.
Must be due to budget difficulties I guess? They do have to add a lot of fillers as to not catch up with manga.
really? you cant see anything similar? even just slightly? this just proves my pointy even more that the easterners perspective on this fight is not gonna be as lenient as it is unless you are an artist yourself and have done at least 5 min of handrawn animation cells so you can see how HARD it was for them to do those scenes and not rely on CG or cell shaded shit like other animes do all the time. he def used some Akira elements in his animation, but he also had 2 different teams clearly. he does this on purpose. sometimes.. you know.. people like to do different things. even if its weird to others <_>;
but look closer, there are some definite similarities. when sasuke get hits, and he trys to animate the cheeks pushed back like pain's. and even other parts. not as much obviously as the pain fight, but it all started from this fight alone.

ya, other anime's can use this face as a "omg naked girl" face, or whatever. but, this is not a playful face. he just got punched in his shit.

he inked these. these are still handrawn, but with a different set of members who do nothing but animate. they dont add any originality to it, so im sure kishi had to put a lot of his own work in here, but not as much as the pain cells

still dont see any similarities?
i respect everyone's own opinion, regardless. but the animation to me was def cool in my eyes. even if it did remind me of spy vs spy
hahaha, my man
edit: just to clarify, that fight came out when i was like 18 or 19. i didnt like the scenes than either, until i started to sketch some random animation blogs i had in my head. doing it is one of the most tedious and challenging things you can ever do by yourself, even if you're used to it, but its also incredibly fulfilling. after i added that to my lifestyle, i came to appreciate that fight a lot more than i did when i was younger, seeing the work he put in. its not by accident, and its not from budget cuts lol. he wants to show his (Japanese lol) fans a different perspective from the same shit you see ALLLllllllll l ll the freaking time
Goddamn.
I haven't watched Bleach in ages, not since ..shortly after the Bount arc, but fuck all if the series didn't have some awesome fights.
The animation quality isn't lower, it's actually much higher.
It's like a Picasso painting.
I do think that it's a little bit TOO fluid, though.
Aye, the animation is just a bit too fluid. If they toned it down to same level as the sasuke vs naruto fight it would have been much better imo. (Absolutely loved the animation in that fight.)
And the hammer nail thing was a bit too far out there.. But otherwise everything was good.
Just wanted to clarify two things.
True, but that isn't the case with the six paths of Pain. His abilities are split so that each body only uses one type of jutsu. That particular body basically controls gravitational jutsu, so severely doubt the water came directly from him.The rinnegan lets you control all chakra elements. He can use and master any technique he wants.
And to clarify my stance on the episode I'm in agreement that the actual animation of the fight was, for the most part, really good. My main gripes were particular instances of the fight, such as Pain hammered into the ground, "My pain is greater than yours," Pain all of a sudden being able to put up and sustain a force field, etc. Those parts just made me wtf and lose some interest in the fight.
Final portion of the episode with almost taking off the seal and Minato was awesome though.
For me the filler shit that they added that went against, specifically pain's, previous fighting style and techniques all seemed off, and made me not enjoy the fight. Also while i do like it when they do a little of the more fluid style animations, this one was excessive with stupid faces that made dramatic scenes comical.
Still Chibaku Tensai, and the 4th almost made up for it... almost...
Water is just a normal elemental jutsu though, you don't have to be special to use it. Even some Jounins are capable of using 2 elements successfully.True, but that isn't the case with the six paths of Pain. His abilities are split so that each body only uses one type of jutsu. That particular body basically controls gravitational jutsu, so severely doubt the water came directly from him.

Animation style aside, can we at least all agree that this nonsense should stay in looney toons? It's completely counterintuitive to the realism that they have thus far created in the naruto universe.
