Looney Toons was baller. The more that animation style leaks into Japnime the better. Fuck realism, you're watching a children's cartoon.

I don't mind the hammer/nail thing since it kinda emphasizes the absurdity of the nine-tail's power. Pair that against the victim actually being a remote controlled corpse and the fact he gets up shouldn't be all that surprising.
The realism I was talking about was relating to everything we know about Naruto as a whole. This shit doesn't happen anywhere else in the anime/manga. Naruto can take out a pain body by whooshing with a punch, with a normal rasengan, but getting hit in the head 4 times with a 100 ton stone slab and there's not a scratch? They completely fucked up the consistency.
Tendo was the strongest of them all, and that's not assuming he wasn't somehow using his ability to lessen the damage from hammer on head.
@ Richardd
I see it now, but it's not as apparent when you watch it in motion. They definitely took it to the next level in the Pain fight.
zzz pretty much everything they do in the fight is unrealistic. Nitpicking 1 thing is pointless.
But, if you really wanted to nitpick it, you could say the whole 6 episode fight weakened Pain to the point where a single rasengan was all it took to defeat him. Or you could say Rasengan is more powerful then being hit in the head with a 100 tonne stone slab (remember the damage it did to that water tank way back in the sasuke vs naruto fight). Blah blah blah
The animation was awesome, don't know why people are complaining. I find it kind of interesting that people bitch/poke fun at the whole whack-a-Pain moment and not the fact that later in the same episode Pain dropped a huge ass chunk of rock on Kyuubi-Naruto and it had no effect.
There's an extreme difference.
The Kyuubi is an ancient massive mountain of monster chakra, and I don't think it actually had a rock dropped on it at all...
all the 6 Piens, and almost every single ninja in the naruto universe is a normal human. They get their neck broken, they die. They get stabbed in the heart, they die.(most anyways) Sure they can use special abilities and control elements and such, but what happened to Pain pushes past the series' suspension of belief threshold
Naruto can still get hurt when he's in kyuubi form. It's okay for Naruto to get a huge chunk of rock dropped on him but it's not okay for Pain to get hit in the head with a pillar a few times.
And I'm sorry, but "normal human" means absolute jack shit in this manga. Is Orochimaru a human? Kisame? I realize you did say almost every ninja is a normal human, but how exactly does that apply to someone who can essentially control six corpses? That's not very normal human, if anything the non-ninjas are the only normal humans. Hasn't Naruto taken a few blows that would have killed him if not for the kyuubi's healing? I wouldn't see it as too far-fetched to think someone (Pain) capable of fighting a mini-kyuubi in all its glory unable to withstand blows that would kill someone else.
I'm really not trying to like attack you or anything Souj, so don't take it like that, I'm just genuinely confused as to why some people are complaining about this fight.
As I said, most of the people in Naruto universe have normal human bodies. Naruto has normal body, except he has the healing ability, like you said. Naruto still gets hurt from normal things, he can just heal up fast.
Pien can control 6 bodies yes, but we have seen that they are normal bodies that can be taken out by normal means.
I think you missed my point when I said they have normal human bodies, but have special abilities. They don't have superman bodies. Think Tony Stark. He has a normal body that gets hurt and can be killed like every other normal person. But, Stark has the Iron Man suit, which is his "special ability". His suit lets him do special things as long as he's wearing the suit. If he;s not using his "special ability", then he'll die just like any other normal human.
The exceptions come from when a ninja's special abilities aid in making their human bodies not "normal", like immortal guy, or Orochimaru's billions of life preserving jutsus.
That Pain body had no ability like that. Only the gravity control, which was not used in that specific scene.
If one can control gravity, is it possible to say they can control force; and thus redirect that force elsewhere? Maybe he had it on auto-reflect by default.![]()
He's a half metal cyborg corpse with superpowers. Chances are he's a bit more durable than the average guy.
The animation on the episode was great but it didn't fit the mood. I started laughing because of it too often as if i was watching a comedy.

Same, I thought they conveyed the wild, unrestrained power and attitude of the 9-tails really well. I loved this episode.
Also, Anko!
Apart from the fight, I was actually shocked, almost offended lol, when someone referred to Hinata as being "taken out" early on when I thought she was flat-out dead because it seemed like such a casual way to deliver the news. Glad to see it may not be the case, but haven't read past this part yet so really hoping things turn around for her.
Last note, but ...does Naruto not know Minato is his father? I never actually noticed whether this was ever spelled out for him before, but referring to him as the 4th seemed like he had no idea why he, of all people, was there.
I don't mind that style when something doesn't change back and forth. One min its the normal style, next thing its different. I didn't enjoy it at all.
Edit: The whole time all i could think of was animators had their kids beating them over the head while they were trying to do this.
Guy's a splitting image of the fourth but never knew.
I love my protagonist dumb as rocks <3.
