Meant Orochimaru if you're referring to what I think you're referring to. He knew him better than anyone and he didn't feel safe making him Hokage which is why he chose Minato, but Oro being a Sannin he could have easily been voted in had the 3rd died and not made a decision.

Something I've wondered and I might get yelled at for asking but, why is Minato the 4th hokage? He was being called the 4th while the 3rd was still around. Shouldn't he have been called that after the 3rd died and he would have lived on as his successor? Was it mentioned that Minato was going to be the 3rd's successor beforehand?

I had always thought he was the "4th hokage" for stopping the Ninetails' rampage and sacrificing himself.

The 3rd retired and made Minato the 4th. Minato dies sealing the Kyuubi and since there was nobody else good enough (I guess,) the 3rd was made Hokage again.

That's a good point gandorf brings up. How are they going to explain filler with Naruto having sage mode now? He's supposed to be in a league of his own so really any filler just won't work... I guess that's why we're about to get a filler from when they were kids? Hopefully it's not long since they did name it 'Part 1' hopefully it's a 2 part thing at most...

Yeah the old methods of Naruto fill aren't going to work anymore. It can't just be asinine plot + weird looking bad guys + naruto getting his ass kicked + eventual rasengan to seal the deal all heroic like.

I mean honestly, Naruto is extremely strong now, and more importantly, has a sense of focus. The old standard of having naruto as an idiot until one of his friends/new filler friends gets hurt won't work anymore.

Think about it: if they had a Yondy filler, would he be some bumbling idiot when it came to fighting, up until the very end? Sure he's a nice guy, but he's deadly serious when fighting. Its about time they had Naruto step into his fathers shoes, especially in filler.

I only watch the anime so far, but I usually watch the sneak peek for the next episode at the end. The filler goes back to when they're kids (Sasuke included) so Naruto won't have sage mode.

Great chapter--the shiki fuin in the last frame literally gave me chills. Easily the best story they've told in flashback. I feel connected to every character and even though I know what's going to happen, I still somehow think there's a chance everyone will end up okay (I'm such a fucking nerd).

Something that I found interesting, though: So Minato sealed half of the Kyubi's chakra away permanently and the other half inside Naruto, right? So if Madara were to actually extract it from Naruto, it would only be at half-strength. Isn't that kind of a big deal? Or am I missing something?

I was thinking about that myself. No matter what, the kyubi will only ever be half as powerful as it once was, which is pretty wild, considering the damage Naruto has been known to do with only half it's chakra and less than 9 tails.

But what I wanna know is if this means that someone equally versed in the shinigami summon could come along and seal the other half of the kyubi's chakra. Would the kyubi be permanently disposed of? Could this be pulled off with all the other biju?

Isn't that exactly why he's collecting all the tailed beasts? To be able to control the ten-tails? I don't know, hopefully in the next chapter they explain this half-kyuubi chakra shit because it's been a point of confusion for me for quite some time.

well, he's not going to summon the 10tailed beast with the 9 beasts. The 9 beasts are the 10tailed beast. They were separated into 9 separate forms. Though I'm not sure why that makes him the 10tailed beast and not the 45tailed beast.
