He left because he decided to pick revenge over everything else, he decided he was going to use Orochimaru to get strong enough to kill his brother. None of it is really whiny at all imo. He choose his path, and stuck with. He threw everything away for the chance to complete his goal. And yet, he still refused to kill other people. Then he finally achieved his objective, and learns his whole life was a lie. He knew nothing. His chooses to stay on the path of revenge and sets a new goal- kill Danzo and the elders. Perfectly reasonable imo.

THEN he decides that all of Konoha should burn, and that everyone is guilty because they were living peacefully there. That is the turning point between someone driven by revenge, and someone who just kills indiscriminately. That is when I decided that he's a whiny bitch who's just mad.

To be fair wanting to kill someone who murdered your entire family and left you an orphan is pretty understandable. He's a douche for not understanding other people have problems too (Naruto) and rejecting them, but he's still a believable character at that point.

When he discovers the world isn't black and white, the appropriate response is not to kill everyone in Konoha including the people that weren't involved in the Uchiha massacre. That's when he becomes retarded. That's also the point where he gets Mangekyo and the Sharingan hax really start getting annoying too.

I was saying almost exactly this to a buddy of mine the other day.
Back when the Byakugan looked like it could sort-of rival the Sharingan, things were a-ok.

People only hate on Sasuke 'cause the Sharingan has gotten so many powerups for the sake of the plot and his personality shift from shinobi cowboy to fringe lunatic.

If things were back to the old days of actual Taijutsu coupled with occasional eyehax it'd be ok but these days it's just eyehax coupled with faulty logic for the 'Sauce.

Well they've gotta keep him powered up so him and Naruto can have the ultimate fight at the end of the series, where Naruto wins and Sasuke sees the error of his ways and returns to the village. Or something equally predictable.

This has probably been discussed at length already, but do you think another time skip is coming any time soon? I have a while before I catch up, but it seems within another year or so would be about the time to do it. Unless people think it's winding down. But it's a shounen, a new enemy can come out of anywhere, really.

See, that's the whole problem. The reason I don't like the Sauce is because all of his power ups post Chuunin Exams were just shitty plot devices so he can keep up with Naruto. It was said before and I still agree that they could give Naruto a billion hax powerups but I still won't care because he earned them all through hard work. The Sauce just discovers his swiss army eye can do something else which is definitely not helping considering that he has Itachi's eyes now. Don't get me wrong though. I like the ways he multipurposed the Chidori but the eye powerup bullcrap needs to stop. -.-;

And no. Sasuke is not a tragic hero. He's a douchebaggy kid who blames everyone else for one event in his life.
Minus his family dying, Sasuke has had a terrific life. Many of the villains in Naruto (and every single manga ever) have had a way more shittier life than anything Sasuke could have had, and they have never reached the same level of faggotry as Sasuke has.

Sasuke started off cool, but honestly after seeing Gaara, Naruto, Pain, and shit even Itachi himself having a pretty tough past, his story isn't even that terrible anymore. Yea, his family and entire clan was murdered by his brother. His brother was ORDERED to kill everyone and had to live with that shame until his brother came to kill him, that's pretty terrible. At this moment he's pretty much not even that important of a character to me if it wasn't for Naruto and Sakura constantly pining for him to come back.

The war right now is really awesome, and yet I already have this gut feeling that before it's even over we're gonna have Sasuke wake up with his new Sharingan and probably head over to Konoha just to distract us from good plot.

As I'm watching Shippuden now (on episode 18 or so) man, I know it's a shounen, but they waste so much time per episode. Minutes of people just standing there staring at each other. I've watched plenty of DBZ & Bleach it's just stall tactics to eat up time so they have more manga to animate which means more episodes. If you cut that stuff out, and flashbacks, and OP/ED you're left with about 10 minutes of content.

Yet I can't stop watching. It's so addicting, especially when you have all the episodes already.

Yeah, I think that's where I lost it with the Sauce. Madara pretty much tells him "Yeah, your brother wasn't a total ass and had shit ten times harder than you"..which causes him to become a raging fucking douche. Prior to that, him actually going off and doing his own thing just to kill Itachi (before you realized the whole deal with Itachi) was kinda cool; primarily because, as other people mentioned, he was still sort of a good guy, just on his own deal.

There was some line earlier in the series where he's yelling at Kakashi and saying "Shut up! How would you feel if everyone you loved was murdered and taken away from you?!" and Kakashi just retorts with "Hmm..yeah, something like that would upset me pretty badly...butttt..you see, anyone like that in my life's already dead" and smiles, then gets serious and tells him "Look, get off this whole revenge kick. It never ends well".

It's like every time someone says something that should snap some sense into the Sauce, he turns around and does the stupidest thing.

As for the upcoming chapter, looking forward to seeing Kakashi bust out the jutsu he's copied.

Gaara is top 3 in the manga for me.

He was a maniac at the start but thats because of Shukaku, after Naruto beat him, he became one of the better characters in the manga, personality and ability wise.

Gaara definitely has one of the sadder backgrounds in the manga. Him and a few others dealt with it though and now they're some of the most badass characters in the story. I really do think Kishi does all this on purpose so that people genuinely hate Sasuke.

On a random note... If Neji's dad was put into the branch family because he was the second born, how come Hinata's younger sister is included in the main family? Shouldn't the main family be limited to Hinata's direct line if it's based off first born?

Neji and Hinata's fathers were twin boys. Since Neji's father was born after Hinata's he was sent to the branch family. It's never really explained how it was split before them but I assume that each main branch family head can only have one heir and the other is sent off to the branch family. Since Hinata's parents only had girls I don't think that there is a problem with sending people to the branch family.
