Yeah, I never ruled out Itachi for one minute, but even he was used well in the grand scheme of things and could have been led to believe that dude was Madara the entire time. Nagato could have been explained due to Madara using space time jutsu... even his jutsus hasn't been fully explained, but it wouldn't be a far stretch to guess he could somehow reach into the future in some way.

I'm still betting on Izuna, seeing as they were pretty much equal in all respects and spent most of their childhood's trying to one up each other.

The amaterasu trap Itachi put on sasuke's eyes reacted to Madara's sharingan. It must be, in some way, Madara. Unless it's someone else.. in which case Itachi knows who it really is because he laid the trap for their eyes.

Anyway, this is a pleasant twist in the story as this war arc has been surprisingly dumb.

Tried to find it really quick but I'm giving up now. I remember it activating when Tobi shows his eye, not Mangekyou'd, to sasuke. Then Tobi talking about how Itachi must have set his mangekyou's amaterasu to activate specifically to his, Madara's, eyes.

Unless it was just supposed to react to the first sharingan he sees? Not many(lol) are supposed to be around.

The question is that if "real" Madara had been dead this entire time (presumably at the time of the fight between he and Shodaime) , how would he even know about Nagato, who was born some decades later after his death?

Going with some sort of soul split thing. Either way, exciting twist.

Also glad to see the original badass looking Madara.

Why? There's nothing that says he died against Shodaime. There's any number of reasons how he could have died after having met Nagato. Dude was old as fuck.

I'm still sticking to the theory that it's a genetically clone similar to Zetsu made by Madara in an attempt to create a new Sage, that Madara would posses ala Orochimaru style before is death, but for whatever reason couldn't - or wouldn't because of it being incomplete. That also explains why Sasuke's eye reacted to Tobi

Didn't Kabutorochimaru call him Madara at some point? If he ever did then Tobi is probably still Madara, but using some kind of weird mind/soul transfer technique that doesn't conflict with IWR.

Well, you could also think of it as Itachi thinking it's Madara's eyes. As far as we know, Itachi has never met the real Madara, and only the Tobi version, so he setup the Amaterasu to react to Tobi's eyes specifically, thinking he was indeed the real Madara. Edit: Only reading half or so of the comments above, I think this might have already been considered.

Went back and reread that chapter and it seems Kabuto calls him Uchiha Madara just to be a smart ass.

If you little theories don't account for why Madara knows who Nagato is then your theory is wrong. That's really the only solid evidence we have from the resurrected(real) Madara, is that he somehow knows of Nagato who was born after he died.

The only reason I note that is that the Madara that was resurrected was a young Madara. I'm not entirely sure how Edo Tensei works (it might have been explained) but does it revive a person in the state they were just before they died, or does it revive them in their prime (i.e. if the third could be figuratively restored via Edo Tensei, would we get old man Hiruzen, or young Hiruzen?)

Him being young still doesn't disregard him having died in the past 10 years or whatever. He could have found a way to stay young, then. Perhaps he had to sacrifice himself to give Nagato the eyes.

Well, you could also think of it as Itachi thinking it's Madara's eyes. He did know who madara was. There were flashbacks of Itachi being buddy-buddy with madara before/during/after the uchiha massacre(don't remember if in the flashbacks he had the mask on.. I know he had long hair but I'm not sure he wore that other swirly mask or was just concealed under shadows for the audience). Madara is the one who told him he had to kill his best friend(shisune? or something - guy with the strongest eyes) in order to get mangkyou.
