Doesn't Rinnegan allows its user capacity to utilize all the elemental chakra, and that Uchiha Clan specialty is usually Katon? If he can uses the Mokuton which is a combination of Suiton and Doton, then it's probably Rinnegan that allowed him to do so.

Rinnegan does not give the use every single kekkai genkei. It does not give the user the ability to use wood jutsu. The reason he is able to use wood jutsu is because part of himself merged with part of the first hokage. The merger is also almost certainly the key in obtaining the sharinnegan.

I don't think Nagato used a single elemental technique, and we haven't seen many elemental techniques from Madara thus far.

I'm almost positive that he used multiple elemental techniques when training with Jiraiya.

Yahiko used a water technique. Nagato used Wind. Female Konan was of course useless.
Don't think there was any other shown. none that I remember the placement of anyways.

In the anime they showed pain using a lot of elements. And it's been said before that the 3rd was the strongest of the hokage, back when he was alive. He didn't have any special tricks like edo tensei from the 2nd, or wood element like the first, but he was just plain Boss.

Yeah, my memory was apparently going off the anime. For that scene in the manga he only uses wind, which makes sense considering he's an Uzumaki. However a few chapters later Jiraiya says "[He] learned all the jutsus I taught him. Even possessing all 6 different elemental chakra which no single person can have. He mastered all the essential jutsus.. blahblah"

Since I doubt his Uzumaki body allowed him to use all 6 elemental chakras proficiently I think it's safe to say it was the rinnegan that allowed his main body to use all the elements.

edit: God damn autopager.. I just reread like 35 chapters for absolutely no reason because they were autoloading as I scrolled down. I was supposed to sleep like 3 hours ago.

You know, I was reading around and someone brought up a great question.

What the hell were the Akatsuki rings for? They were assumed to be important in some way but with all the Akatsuki members being killed off and then Edo Tensei'd, it seems like they're a throwaway point now?

I guess Nagato thought it'd be awesome if everyone had super, speshul decoder rings when they joined his organization.

Think they were just symbols of actually being a member, cause orochimaru kept his even after he left.

I thought their rings was for extracting the tailed beasts? Wasn't it made out to be a big deal about position on specific fingers on the demonic statue summon, where they wore them when doing the extraction jutsu and why Orochimaru's defection turned it into a three day technique?

That would make sense, there was a sense of urgency in finding Deidara's arm when he lost it, specifically because they wanted the ring back.

I always thought it was just that they had less people there to extract the beast, so it took longer. I'm fairly positive that the rings were used for the communication and astroprojection, can't say they weren't used for anything else though.

Of course, he could just be referring to making madara immortal, since he couldn't use said meteor move with out killing himself as well...not to mention it is implied that he didn't get said rinnegan until after his fight with the first, which has alluded to leaving him weakened/close to death.

The way I undestood it is that he restored his body to the shape it was in before the fight with Hashirama, with the exception of his memories, skills and Rinnegan.

This. Beyond his prime because he's alive and kicking, but with Rinnegan upgrade.
