Too many flashback panels for sure but Naruto's escape and plan to remove the binding stake are a return to old form for the series, in a good way. I did always like Naruto's convoluted, "I Love Lucy" three tons of effort for six inches of gained ground solutions to problems. Him overdoing it with shadow clones is good for a laugh as well.

Well the Kyuubi has been pumping Naruto with free chakra for a few fights now, so it's not like he's entirely abandoned him and making him do all the work... just most of the work. This chapter felt like buildup to me. So little happened, and it all happened just to emphasize Naruto freeing Son (or attempting to at least). So here's hoping something really good happens next chapter.

Also, how hax is it that Naruto has both Sage mode and Kyuubi mode going on at the same time? Will he finally combine those forms when one of the clones disperses?

Well with the fox not fighting back for chakra he's more free to use different modes and to use more clones. Because that chakra struggle that normally happens has stopped Naruto is free to do stuff that he was limited to before due to the possibility of the fox taking over.

A lot of flashbacks but it made me realize something...the reason Naruto was so bad at making the Shadow Clone at the beginning of the series but easily able to do Multiple Shadow Clone. One shadow clone probably requires more control and since his chakra was always massive and difficult to control it was difficult for him to perform a single concentrated clone. However the multiple clones were easier since he didn't have to focus as much and could just let his huge chakra pool go 'free' so to speak.

He's not giving Naruto anything, he has simply stopped fighting him for chakra. The only time he gave him chakra was at the Madara fight, and that was all used up in 5 seconds.

The fox can't give him chakra. Naruto took control of it. The only way the fox can help is to not take his chakra. Also, since they're on not-bad terms now Naruto can probably transform into the ninetails correctly.
