Just read the chapter after that to see the fight, and they say Orochi's goal was to find the 'reason behind existance'. In the ninja world, that would all go back to the rinnegan and sage of the 6 paths. Love seeing something small like that mentioned, then brought up again 300 chapters later.

Also, he probably started transferring because his actual body is a snake, and he needed to be in a human body for most jutsus.

His body became serpentine when he perfected the transference jutsu. Before then, he was a perfectly human shinobi with an over-the-top interest in snakes and shedding.

I thought the snake-form was a result of experimentation on his own body which would also explain why Kabuto also happens to be snake-like in appearance now.

It's not like Kabuto knows the transfer jutsu... or does he?!

What ronin sparthos said is what I was trying to get at. Basically, he didn't start out a snake in human form. He developed the snake characteristics as a result of his own dabbling.

Gotchya. I thought you meant the transfer stuff turned his original body into a snake, which could actually be the case, but had no backing in the manga from what i remember.

Remember when Orochimaru attacked Itachi?

Itachi cut his left arm off. That's why he body hopped the first time. He left Akatsuki for that reason too; he needed to get a new body, and a new left arm.

Wonder how many problems would have been avoided if the Sage of Six Paths used one of the many available jutsu to stay alive instead of splitting off the tailed beast into 9 different beasts.

Also, his bodies didn't last very long, they had to be replaced every so many years. Don't know how that's confusing at all.

Well fuck. I've just been off the ball recently haven't I. I blame watching one piece for my incorrect memories, the more I learn about Luffy the more I forget about Naruto.

Losing ones arms shouldn't even really mean anything, Deidara lost his the first time and he apparently got new ones. With how skilled Kabuto is, he could have probably gotten a new one on there.

I always just assumed what some have said; he body swaps to stay young. He wasn't in his original body when fighting the 3rd, and having his hands sealed meant he needed to swap again. If the effects were permanent then body swapping would serve no purpose to him, since he could never perform the ninjutsu he wanted. He swapped to another body that wasn't ready for him since A) Bone dude got Bone-itis and B) Sasuke got held up fighting Naruto, which caused the rejection issues.

The obsession with the Uchiha body is just the benefits it gives when it comes to using and learning Ninjutsu. Kakashi has merely an eye and yet he's known as the Copy Ninja, and has learned to use it to a great degree. He was able to copy and even cast a ninjutsu that Zabuza was casting in his face before he could finish it. A fully blooded Uchiha would be even better with the eyes, which suits his purpose better. Rinnegan would probably be as good but considering Pain had 6 Paths it'd probably be impossible for him to ambush him, and his normal body was pretty worn down as is.
