The thing about Itachi's genjutsu is that it's only supposed to break when the victim comes to some personal revelation.

So by the time he comes out of it, Kabuto may not give a fuck about Orochimaru.

If orochimaru is still alive and isn't alive because of some reversal of susanoos sword, then I think however it is that he stayed alive would be the same reason tobi = madara.

Gonna be a few chapters till we see it though, if the 10 tails is about to make his appearance. Don't know how though, we knew he has ghetto 9 tail power, but what about 8 tail?

Kinda bullshit he can summon the 10 tails while only using residual chakra of the 9 tails, and 1/8th of the power of the 8 tails. Oh well, at least we know why the 10 tails is going to die/be split up again.

Wouldn't be so sure. He would've been alive the 4th was, which is presumably after the 3rd found his one lab, likely sometime after fighting Hanzou. He'd probably long been in business with Danzou at this point, including experimenting with the 1st's cells. All of this should've happened before Naruto's birth.

But consider pedosnake's obsession with both the sharingan and mastering all jutsu. Let's say he's in his 40's when first tries the body swap. It works, but instead of transferring, it copies his mind/soul/whatever to the new host. This act could even leave the original body looking dead, but perhaps through the 1st's cells, it revives over time and comes to learn that another Orochimaru is out there carrying on his work. That alone could give him the idea of imitating Madara after finding a sharingan (which would've been more plentiful back then). The fuzziest part would've been the time taken to master it. When we go on to consider his past relationship with Danzou, it could have put him in the planning for the Uchiha massacre (Where'd he get all the eyes, hmm?) while at least tipping him off the Kushina was pregnant. He'd still know enough to fuck with Sasuke's head, and any info prior on Madara could've easily been learned by other sources perhaps more prevalent in the past.

Something somewhere could've then clued him in on Madara getting the Rinnegan before he died, and in typical mad scientist fashion, led him to fudging around until he could create whatever process he used to allegedly "give them" to Pain. His personal desire for the "rebirth" jutsu Pain used to revive Konoha could've simply been to get his original body back to its pure, youthful form. The real Madara showing up would certainly out him if their paths crossed, and he'd have a legitimate reason to fear him between their levels of mastery and the perks of ET. It's also possible this body wouldn't have known about the ET's specifics due to how long ago the swap could've happened. Or he could've been trolling Kabuto.

I dunno, I think it a bit more reasonable than Madara's brother, who while a bit absent in the history books post-eye swap, would probably be as old, if not older, than the Tsuchikage. Should we praise the 1st's cells for keeping him so spry despite the hinted age of his face? Perhaps. I don't quite feel like his connection to other events that happened in the series would be as strong, though.
