Apparently they thought Madara was dead after the fight, so maybe asskicking theory isn't too far off.

It was most likely a political win, but it's also entirely possible that the First beat him in a real fight too. Remember, the first was able to control all Bijuu, he was really strong.

I believe it could be explained that with those eyes, he could basically alter reality around him as he wished it. So technically, he could make it as if a day never passed for his body while it could be 20..30.. 40 years in the future, or whatever the case may be. Make sense?

I think I'd rather wait for some more concrete evidence as to the powers of his eyes. Speculating that his eyes allow him to alter reality however he sees fit presents quite a broad range of power at his disposal. And Itachi mentions that Madara is just a shell of what he used to be, so I'm also interested in finding out what this new source of weakness is.

Maybe the mangekyou gives you extra long life, but it makes you blind. In the ninja world this could easily be true because a blind ninja has a much higher chance at dying and thus you wouldn't have heard about this much.

Exactly. You don't go blind with the new eyes which leads me to wonder why Madara is only a shell. Maybe he's lost that certain insane edge, which is why he's having other nins do his dirty work.

The way I've understood about the "new" Mangekyou Sharingan is it allows you to twist things at will. You can already alter a single person's reality with them as it's been displayed, so with an upgraded power.. it'd make sense to do it to a higher level.

I didn't realize at first, but after Madara took his brother's eyes the new mangekyou combined the look of his original eyes with his brothers.

Anyway, it was good to learn more about Madara's history, but I still want to know why he uses the one-eyed mask. Also, I'd like to learn more of the rinnegan since so far it seems to pale in comparison to what the Sharingan is capable of.

I'm sure that Tobi is Obito-- Otherwise one eye slot just wouldn't make any sense. We probably just haven't seen Madara. Either that, or the weird Akatsuki member that is watching the fights atm is just Madara in.. Genjutsu form? I don't know..

The way I look at it in the Naruverse... if there is no funeral that we see where the remains would be (and not counting Kakashi visiting the Stone Monument or anything) or no scene where we see their body and their last breath, then no one is dead. D: So if Tobi = Madara = Obito, then that'll be expected, but still surprising. YONDAIME IS STILL ALIVE GUYS! (That'd be cool too.)
