Naruto is usually pretty good about giving explanations to most of the shit that goes on. Some of ya'll dudes are just looking for a reason to be upset while forgetting that the Naruto universe is full of shit that never makes sense at first but eventually comes together hence why it was revealed at the end of the chapter to fill your mind with fuck.

Plus the time period between Kakashi's era to Naruto's era is enough time for someone to train hard enough to become pretty strong given the right motivations for it. Its pretty obvious that Naruto is the Obito of this generation who probably fell into the role he even said himself he could've fell into if he allowed his hatred to fuel his motivations.

Since kakashi has one of Obito's eyes, I'm willing to bet he actually did die and either he was revived or someone is controlling his body. It could've also just been a cover-up the whole time (don't really like this reason though).

The only thing that really needs to be explained is who actually fought the Fourth which I'm willing to bet wasn't Obito. This is Naruto and time travel is possible but id really hate that because its a cop-out explanation. For all we know, Tobi doesn't have to stand for a person, it could stand for an ideal who's role is being played by multiple people spread accross multiple generations starting with the original Madara (maybe). If that's the case, it makes total sense why Tobi wants to influence Sasuke to be the next "Tobi", or atleast make him a pawn that contributes to realizing that specific ideal. This manga is pretty well thought out but its not really that deep. It follows specific, multiple themes and this could be one that hasn't been shown until now which would redeem itself as a plot twist. You can never have good without evil.

The explanation probably won't take a whole chapter unless Tobi is about to die.

The only point that needs to be restated for this entire "argument" is that Tobi/Madara fought Yondaime and had full control of Kamui. We don't know enough about Kamui yet to make a fully-intelligent analysis. We don't know if its a special mangekyou, if Obito came from a strong bloodline or something, or, most importantly, if his Mangekyou is exclusive to himself. That's the key: if there were other people within the Uchiha that had the propensity to develop the eye needed for Kamui, then that opens up a wellspring of potential candidates within the clan, but if Kamui is 100% exclusive to Obito... we have ourselves a problem that might only be explainable through either time-travel or Obito being some kind of vessel for someone else's consciousness.

I'm leaning more towards the latter, especially how Tobi obviously seems to have Obito's memories, yet keeps stressing that "I'm nobody". I doubt he's saying that simply to wear a cheap mask (figuratively) over the fact that he's Obito underneath, but that something or someone... happened to Obito as he lay crushed under those rocks.

I fucking bet you Orochimaru knows; he probably translated the secret of what the Rinnegan eye is needed to translate in the Secret Uchiha hideout - probably something about once a Sharingan becomes a Rinnegan, possession and other shit is possible.

All I know is that whoever Tobito is, he's fucking strong. He has a potentially-exclusive Kamui Mangekyou, a Rinnegan, obviously has Senju DNA within him to boost his chakra and stamina to absurd amounts (he's never once complained about needed to retreat based on exhaustion) and a full mastery of a complex array of jutsu.
