Since Madara says neither of them can physically leave, it suggests that someone other than himself constructed the barrier, I'm assuming, to conceal Madara's existence. It's not how it works at all, it doesn't upgrade without you not actually witnessing the event to trigger it. Last he saw, Kakashi and Rin excaped, so there'd be no reason for him to suspect that she died immediately afterwards. That shit triggered because he was fucking dying, and he wanted to survive so he and Kakashi could look after Rin.

That's what's keeping him alive, and its probably the same tree we see captain yamato? (Forget his name) get absorbed into, creating the stronger zetsus.

Some pieces of the puzzle getting filled, but still a a lot of questions left. Madara for sure died at some point, hence why he's edo tenseid, next chapter will probably be him explaining why obito should follow him, and next after that will be obito revealing wtf a zetsu is (hopefully).

Also, since he has Hirashima's dna, he also got access to the healing jutsu, which runs in Hirashima's family (see Tsunade), which partially explains Zetsu, since as far as I can tell, he's the result of wood jutsu (nigga's head is a venus flytrap) and life (a walking, talking venus flytrap).

Madara was the head of the Uchiha clan, so him being an ancestor just points to the fact that Obito knows just how important of a man he was to the clan.
