It's possible that he never had enough chakra to use it until then Ronin. If you think about it, during the initial Zabuza encounter he passed out just having regular Sharingan out for like 20 minutes. It's not too far fetched to say that he never acquired the massive amount of chakra needed for a non-Uchiha to use a Mangekyou until the fight with Deidara where he was only able to use Kamui once (I think?) and almost died anyways.

Yeah I'm willing to buy that explanation.

Considering the limitations Kakashi put on Chidori which is a pretty lulzy technique when stacked against most Sharingan abilities its fair to assume that he just didn't have the chakra reserves to manifest it until well into the time skip.

I never really got how Sharingan lore worked in the village.

It's not common knowledge amongst the commoners to know about the Sharingan transformations but who exactly is privy to this knowledge? High ranking shinobi? Well, Kakashi happens to qualify there as a Jounin. He also owns a Sharingan which means village leadership had to keep an eye (pun not intended) on him as he's one of the last remaining trump cards.

Most of the antagonists and other high ranking village ninja easily identified Mangekyo whenever it popped up so Kakashi really can't excuse his lack of knowledge on the topic to an information blackout when nearly everyone of importance knows what it is.

I guess he could just default to "Hey, when did I activate this shit?"

Kakashi was a high ranking Anbu member at some point. If Konoha knew anything about Mangekyou, so did Kakashi.

The more apparent Obito's motives become, the less I care about him as a villain. This is pretty much shaping up to be what Naruto would've became if similar events happened in his life.

Maybe that was the idea the whole time.

Well it's apparent that Obito is gonna be POF'd. Madara is the "endgame" villain. It's obvious he was just being manipulated the whole time. Not that this is news to anyone, but I don't think Kishi is aiming to make him the big bad.

Anyone surprised that Kakashi and Rin HAVEN'T grown in the slightest bit? Just because you have the Sharingan does mean you aren't affected by Genjustu.

check page 14 of the chapter. You can not exactly tell what Village-Headband the ninja is wearing (the one with the destroyed mask) but this is of importance. Why Does Kishi show the splinting of a mask of a Bloody mist ninja if there was no face under it to be recognized by Obito? Remember, we don't quite see it clear but he does. It is probably a leaf-Ninja that would at least in parts explain his hatred for the leaf's and that he said to kakashi "you let rin die".
So maybe fucking Danzo again? Not sure here...

This isn't the first time Kishi has done this; I believe he's done it 3 times now. Gaara was a mirror, Sasuke was a mirror, and now Obito. Japan re-uses themes like crazy (TRADITION, YO!) so it makes sense... I guess.

Just tell us the goddamn secret about Rin, please. Why were both of them out there, so far from reinforcements anyway? Was she a spy? Was she trying to return to mist with sensitive information?

I know some callous shit goes on during war, so just spit it out. This is going exactly as I stated earlier, though; young youth slowly being brainwashed by a creepy adult into adopting their method of thinking and hating the rest of the world. This time, though, Obito got a little something special in seeing the manifestation of Madara's brainwash-teachings; the death of something he loves and the pain that war causes. As a result, Obito's already becoming less stable and is already starting to use some of the terminologies that Madara throws around.

Its like that episode of... shit, what's that cop show that dealt with the same exact thing... Chick gets abducted at 9, is held prisoner within a house for 8 years, develops a bond with and a need for her captor, is brainwashed into distrusting everyone not him, flips out when rescuers come and nearly kills them all, and it takes the entire goddamn episode to try to break her out of it (she's still not "normal" by the episode's end, either).
