Think the eyes actually belonging to Madara is kind of gay. How do you implant eyes in a kid without the kid even realizing? You would think something like that in a kid's life would be a significant memory. Woulda been cooler if he was just a genetic freak and his backstory went into depth into his bloodline which resulted in the Rinnegan instead of some dude going "Hay, can you hold onto these for me for a bit til I come back? Didnt Nagato black out and when he came to, there were some dead guys on the ground and he had the rinnegan? Madara probably just genjutsud him into black out, then swapped.

I agree its lame, especially as transplant surgery isn't something simply involving putting an eye in while taking an eye out. When did he do it? It had to be before Konoha killed his parents. I presume that having the eyes at such a young age positively affected his maximum chakra capacity, though, which I suppose is believable.

I don't think he implanted them when he was blacked out. I think the Rinnegan itself awakens when the "wielder" so to speak is close to death. Madara awakened them when he was close to death from age, and Nagato awakened them during the war. Perhaps mixed with the fear of death, rather than death itself, similar to how mangekyou awakens from the feeling when you kill your best friend.

As for the eyes being too big, is it really necessary to implant them in to the eye socket? Iunno, maybe you just need to "give" it to them.

Except an adult's eye is just about the same size as child's eye and doesn't change much, except for shape, as you age.
