I thought it was well done. Before the timeskip Neji treated Hinata like shit. After this he was willing to sacrifice himself to save her, because he understood the meaning of it when his father did it (didn't his father give his life for Hinata's?).

Bleach sure could learn a lot from this shit.

Yeah, Hizashi and Hiashi were twins, so Hinata and Neji are cousins.

Considering how they said she had surpassed Hinata at a very young age (ok, not exactly tough), after the three year time skip, girl was probably 10 or so right?

Meaning that, based on Naruto logic, she's Itachi tier (him at 10 that is).

No RL battle experience I'm guessing so she's just young enough to be kept back with the kids for safekeeping.
There's also the painfully blunt rationalization that Hinata has always been considered the expendable one so if the Hyuuga were going to risk a main house member they'd have Hanabi to be the one most likely to survive.
Losing Neji alone probably set them back at least a few decades in terms of new techniques/skills to hand down considering he replicated decades if not hundreds of years worth of techniques handed down independently and on his own.

The series can't end without Team 7 being permanently damaged and since Kishi pussied out of killing off Kakashi back at the Pain arc and now looks like he has Sasuke on track to redeem himself instead of going full villain I demand the blood of Sakura to be on someone hands, preferably with Madara delivering a smug one liner.
