Yes and no. He mastered Sage mode, that much is a given and has been said in the manga. And him going full Bijuu mode was because Kurama finally started working with him and his full caped, giant 9-tails body is his bijuu transformation, aka, the same as when Bee turns into the Hachibi.

I think Lucavi's explanation is entirely correct and pretty much explains it.

I don't think it's actually been once explained or noted that he was using them together. At least, not in the manga/anime. I have this strong gut feeling that the way you described it was used in a movie, but I can't recall which one. But according to the wiki, they were only used together once during a filler fight against Pikkon (....who is a crappy ripoff of Piccolo)

Edit: I ~think~ during Goku's fight with Frieza before he turns SSJ, Krilling or Gohan or the trio that are dead and watching with King Kai are all like "he's getting beat-up but he hasn't used Kaioken yet, it's his trump card!!" or some shit like that, and King Kai or Piccolo or whoever was like "Nope, he's been using it all this time and is still getting his ass whooped". And that might be what I'm thinking of.

None of the other jinchuuruki have mastered their abilities like naruto has. He's a natural at it as well. Also, descendant of sage of 6 paths, etc.

I was going it say it's only because it's the Kyuubi specifically, who is like 40+% of the Juubi just by himself. Arguably Bee fully mastered being a jinchuuruki already. Obito even called him the perfect host.

I think its this. Kyuubi is the strongest of the nine, and Naruto is essentially the reincarnation (or some sort of super-descendant) of the sage, so his fusion yields different results. There's also a few unconfirmed theories out, which include:

1) The fact that his seal was the only known seal to be essentially created not only out of hope, but also for a positive reason (I hate this theory) and
2) The specific type of seal used for him, which allowed for a free-flowing mixture of host and jinchuriki chakra to flow and mix together (I dislike this one too)

Personally I'll stick with what we know: Kurama is the strongest by far. There's also the fact that he's the main fucking character, so he gets the choice picks of the hax backstories and legends, but that's a very cynical point to try to raise.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed at this point that Naruto will at one point or another either;

1) become the 10-tail host or something similar due to the other tailed beasts giving him part of their chakra
or
2) He will become the sage of six paths

Most likely both. Although probably not until after he's fought with Sasuke, as I highly doubt Sasuke would be stronger than Obito + Madara together, so I'm guessing the Madara/Tobi fight will be over soon. My guess is that Naruto manage to critically injure Obito, making Madara and Obito retreat in order to completely resurrect Madara. Either that or lolSasuke does it...

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think Naruto want to combine the beasts in to 10-tails ever as that would remove their personalities, and he considers them friends. So it's more likely that he's just in control of all of the tailed beasts to fight the 10-tail. So my guess is final fight is versus 10-tail and he separate it in to the tailed beasts again to keep them as friends.

Honestly at this point, I'm willing to bet money on Sasuke redeeming himself in so far as his former friend are concerned. He won't come back to Konoha but he'll probably forego his whole revenge scheme.

I think jiraiya does mention narutos seal is special, back when he's training og naruto.

Wasn't the unique part about it that his father sacrificed his life to make it unlike the other seals, and that his mom put some of her chakra in to it as well?

I'm sure the seal itself had something to do with the Uzumaki clan being masters at seals, and his father had learnt to make seals from Naruto's mom, and that the seal was originally of Uzumaki design - hence why the seal has the same shape as the sign for the Uzumaki clan.

Not just that, but it actually functioned better then other bijuu seals. At least, I'm pretty sure I remember Jiraiya mentioning it. I think it was the training before the chuunin exam, maybe even the same time he undid the seal orochimaru put on naruto. I'm too lazy to go check.

The special thing about his seal is that it's designed to leak out small (variable) amounts of chakra and convert it into his own while simultaneously keeping the beast locked up. I don't think the other types of seals that have been used by the other people allow you to utilize the beasts chakra without 'releasing' it.
